The CWS is over....long live boredom

Well, as hard as I try to type this...the CWS is now over. (Long pause as I wipe my eyes.) I only wish the tourney could go on forever, so ESPN could put Omaha on T.V. EVERY DAY, and then, people would see how great we are. In the meantime, I hope to write ESPN and make sure they had a great time, so they don't forget how great we are. Man, what an awesome time we all had. I hope the visiting fans from out of town had a great time. I hope they realize how great we are.
(This is the message I'm getting from watching the news tonight. Stop me if you've heard it.)

Now that the CWS is over, we can look back....enjoy how great everything was, (even if that prick Dennis Poppe had to verbally assault some kid who "interfered with the ball". Hey Dennis....stick to your $50,000 suite, with your cherry trimmed desk and your $8,000 wet bar and your leather couch. (I've slept on it.) Make sure you let everybody know how much in charge you are of this event...and how you want to make sure that fair-play is considered by all involved...especially as you make your millions of dollars...drive around in your courtesy cars and have your private jet take you back and fourth from Indianapolis to Omaha every other day, because god forbid you sleep in a shithole town like this that is so below you.

Dick.

Anyway, point is actually quite valid. Now that the CWS circus is over, it's officially football season and time for Husker football myopia. Yes, another few months of recounting how outstanding some 18 year old kid from Louisiana is, who loved the Huskers so much that he wore a Tommie Frazier jersey to school every day for a month. Yes, time to talk about how Bill Callahan is going to show YOU and every other idiot who doesn't know college football that the HUSKERS are not only back..but they never left. Time for them to show YOU how great they are.....

Well, in case you forget...they're pretty outstanding. Just ask them.

**********
Speaking of Huskers...pretty interesting how little publicity this steroid thing is getting down in Lincoln. Not to say the Huskers are all on steroids...they may be, they may not be, I don't know. But I do know this....unlike real media markets with journalists who want to break a big story...Trav, Merlin, Dave, John, Tom and the rest of the bumbling idiots who cover sports in this town won't touch this story with a 12 foot goalpost. The ONLY way they would blow the lid on the Huskers and their steroid problem is if they had a cushy job sitting between one of Jason Whitlock's fat rolls on the the Sports Reporters every Sunday morning, and a one-way ticket out of here as soon as the story hit.

Rest assured, that with Tom Osborne getting ready to make MAJOR noise with his pseudo-Governor run...you can rest assured that ANYONE who dares take on the Huskers will be made aware how unfriendly and how unclassy taking on the Big Hick Machine really is. Concrete shoes and trips down the river? Probably not. But don't think for a second that Steve Pederson, Tom Osborne and the rest of the crew won't have something to say about ANYBODY who dares take them on.

Oh maybe Mike McKnight....but I really wouldn't put even money down on him taking on one of Callahan's former goon friends from Oakland.

OK, enough about the Huskers. They'll be back in the forefront in no time. MORE PICTURES OF MARIA PLEASE!!!!!

I was thinking about something earlier today...as much as I hate JJ Davis, he might be the best sports presenter Omaha tv news has.

Before you lace into me for saying that, think about how shit 6 and 7's sports departments are.

You know...

Through mutual friends, I know one of the guys arrested...

I worked in the athletic department...

I saw him around sudent-athletes all the time...

There were rumors of this three years ago...

Things that make you go 'hmmm'...

I know somebody as well who worked in the UNL athletic department in the mid 90's as a football tutor. You'd be amazed by some of the stuff that goes on. Not saying NU is any different than anybody else...they may not be...but you'd be foolish to say that just because THEY'RE NEBRASKA, they're untouchable and above all that.

They aren't.

Stay tuned.

I wouldn't be surprised if a connection between steroids and the Huskers came out. Disappointed? You bet. Surprised? Not so much.

As for the reaction of the state? It depends; it would need to be well researched and documented. Bernard Goldberg and Armen Keteyian came into Lincoln to try and invent stories, and got roasted in the process.

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't get off seeing the Huskers go down in scandal. It would be mildly amusing...but you never want to see kids using like that to improve their performance...no matter who they play for.

I just think the media, or lack of media attention to this story is what is worth watching.
