Gimmie your lunch money Josh
Gameday in Manhattan, and Husker fan has made it a memorable week. Normally during KSU-NU week around here, we get 5 full days of complaints about KSU fans, and how they never did anything before 1992, so they therefore aren't even a real school. Husker fan bitches about the travel. Husker fan bitches about being mistreated. Husker fan bitches that Wildcat fan doesn't recognize his greatness. (Who doesn't?)
But this week has been a bit different. This week, Husker fan has taken his Freudian indignation of all things purple out on an 18 year old kid. Enter Josh Freeman, who like many other 18 year old kids, decided at the last second that something just didn't feel right to him. If you have been living under a rock, Freeman went back on a VERBAL commitment from NU, (even though they had Harrison Beck at the time) and re-verbaled to K-State and new coach Ron Prince.
This of course outraged the Hee-Haw people.
Radio call-in shows have been flooded by grown men, calling out an 18-year old kid...not for breaking the law...but for saying, "Sorry guys, I feel more comfortable down here and don't want to mess up this important of a decision." This was responded with the following:
"I hope they cart him off on a stretcher"
"I hope the crowd really lets him have it. (Apparently Husker fan thinks a lot of red will be in the stands."
"I hope as the trainers are taking him off the field, he realizes what a mistake he made"
Here's my quick take on the whole thing: You'd have to be a real dumbass to think 18-22 year old kids really give a shit at all about what some guy they never met did to them. (I'd be more pissed at Beck personally...he left them with no QB..not Freeman). I give props to Husker freak Adam Carriker who told the Omaha wolrd Herald this week (paraphrasing), "It's not that big of a deal, we're going to treat him like any other opposing QB." In other words, "I don't know the guy, I never met the guy, who fucking cares?" As Husker Mike reported in his blog this week, a few KSU fans aren't exactly setting a great example either, however...if Husker fan would worry more about his own problems, rather than bullying some kid who shunned them, they'd probably be better off. So the kid changed his mind. Big fucking deal. Move on.
* Another big test for my Colorado friends as Texas Tech comes to Boulder today. Not quite sure what to make of Tech...especially on the road. The Buffs slowed down Mizzou quite a bit in Columbia, so there is no reason they can't do the same in Boulder. However, Mike Leach is kind of a prick that way, and will probably be going all out to make a statement. Surely Dan Hawkins is going to pull one out at some point won't he?
* Huge test for Mizzou this afternoon visiting Kyle Field. It's pretty funny listening to the media all week talk about Missouri. On one hand, they're 6-0 (which is pretty good for any team), they've dominated pretty much everybody, and they're coming off a 17 point win in one of the most hostile environments in college football. All of these things demand respect, and look pretty good on a resume. However, you and I both know they're still Missouri, and heartbreak is just a kicked ball or Troy State Defensive Lineman away. Statisticly, winning at College Station should be an easier chore than winning in Lubbock, so the possibility is there. Should Mizzou win today, and beat a KSU team at home next week, you would be looking at pandemonium against OU at 8-0 on 10/28. Too far away I know...but something to consider. I wouldn't be shocked either way today.
* Speaking of which, my team at work went on an outing yesterday, and we ended up at a local bar. Inside on the 2 big screens was the 1997 NU-Missouri game. Despite being one of the most gut-wrenching kicks in the nuts of all time, I actually felt kinda good watching it for several reasons. First off, Nebraska back then was flat out scary if for no other reason that it was completely demoralizing watching them rush for 5 yards a play no matter what. Shit, you knew what play was coming..yet still couldn't stop that. The reason I feel good now, is because that offense now only lives in high school, and Missouri actually has talent on the field. My how far we've come since then.
* Finally...I have a complaint. What the fuck happened to Maxim magazine? I remember a year or so ago, you could always count on good reading material...some funny bits and maybe a hot semi-naked celebrity or two. Now that they've changed editors, the magazine has twice as many ads, way fewer pictorials, features lame gags and is about as funny as the Blue Collar Comedy tour. Throw Maxim on the list now of things that were once great that now suck ass, right next to MTV, Amarillo BBQ restaurant in Bellevue and American made cars and trucks. Very very disappointing.
So to make up for that, I give you Scarlett and ridiculously smoking Brooke Burke.
Enjoy the games today everybody and good luck to my Cat friends.

Mizzou had a very nice win. But I wouldnt call Tech even close to the most hostile enivornments in college football. Yes, yes, I know, they crushed NU 70-10. But, really, who have they beaten at home, EVER? Id say today at A&M will be a much more hostile environment. Lubbock isnt even in the top half of the conference as far as tough environments go.
Your opinion is fine..but Tech was 18-2 in their last 20 since 2002, and hadn't lost to a non-top 20 team at home since October 6th, 2001. (Vs. Kansas)
To say AT Tech AT night isn't hostile is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. In my opinion of course.
PS - Mizzou won in 2002 with a crappy 5-7 team, and lost on a missed FG against a #13 ranked Aggie team in 1998. There is a history of playing well there, especially considering 1/2 the 2006 team is from Texas.
Good Luck at A&M today. I always want north teams to win against the south.
Bo Big Red!

You really are on a mission so find out how many followers of your bs are really out there, or just enjoy the negative part of life.
I am really new to your "Huskerh8ter" site.
Your life must really suck because you really appear to suck ass!
Wow, what a great reply. Be sure to keep posting. I can see you have a bright future in professional writing.
Well that stunk.
A&M played a near flawless game, controling the line and keeping teh Mizzou offense off the field. Good thing for Mizzou is, A&M played as well as they possibly could have been asked, and still only won by 6.
That loss may not be a bad thing when you think about it. THey weren't going 13-0 and the publicity was getting thick. With Adrian Pederson out now, Mizzou should be at least a TD favorite in every game but the NU game.
Still dissapointing, but in the big grand scheme of things..you can't ask for much more. (Excpet for your wide receiver to hold onto the fucking ball when he gallops into the end zone.)
Note to JP - You play Texas next.
DB - Nothing you can really do but tip your hat to A&M. They played a perfect game. Kept the ball away from MIzzou...(who fumbled twice, including on a breakaway TD) and then they used that fat Lane guy to pound the shit out of them when the Mizzou D was on the field for about 3/4 of the game.
Franchione made some pretty good adjustments, but Mizzou still moved the ball OK. Just didn't convert when they needed to. Would have liked to have seen them get the ball to Coffman and Rucker more, but winning in College Station against a 6-1 team when you turn the ball over 3 times is rather tough.
Seriously though...A&M played an absolute perfect game..nothing more (other than the safety) could have gone more right for them...and they still won by only 6.
Mizzou will be favored big in 4 of their last 5. Nebraska still has UT, OSU and A&M. Long long long way to go.
Good win for your buffs btw.
Huh? The fake was dumb...but other than that, didn't see anything too horrible.
I'm not sure if you know this or not..but College Station is kind of a hard place to play. Especially when you are having TD's knocked out of your hand at the goaline and your defense is on the field for 45 straight minutes (and the other team has a 270lb running back)
I don't think your team has been spectacular enough to start talking shit about..especially since you have a much tougher road than Mizzou does. (And MU's tough game with Oklahoma just got easier)
But whatever...Callahan got outcoached by Mangino, and last time Kevin Cosgrove schemed against Mizzou, Brad Smith went for 480 on you.
Think what you want.
Mangino is actually a good coach I think...he just has zero talent. I'll post about it tomorrow, but I actually commend Clownahan's coaching this year. Going vanilla has really cut down on turnovers and such, which puts you in holes. Him and his coaches don't respond to pressure very well (sorry..they don't)...but they've avoided that by being steady on the ground.
Even though I think they suck and are a giant fraud..I have to give them credit for just going out and running a plain old vanilla offense. Their D hasn't faced ANYBODY worth a shit yet, so I'm kinda undecided on them.
Either way...both teams will be 3-1 in the North next week and we'll be right back where we were. It's all going to come down to 11/4, so we may as well get used to it.
AJ,
Your little Maxim thing at the end of this post made me realize I really do love you.
JG
AJ, thought you might enjoy this little story from the game yesterday. KSU didn't get the win, but Freeman looked very good...we had a lot of positives, just made too many mistakes (both coaches and players). With seven players on offense who were making their second start ever, we put up over 300 yards on NU...the future is bright.
Anyway, this is a firsthand account from me and actually happened. I typed it up on a message board but figured you would enjoy it:
"I happened to be looking at the north endzone near the end of the third quarter, and I saw a little kid begging and pleading for a free t-shirt. A cheerleader walking by had one, and he threw it underhanded so the little kid could catch it. A GROWN MAN IN A RED NEBRASKA T-SHIRT REACHED OUT AND SNATCHED IT FROM THE KID. Reached over the little kid's head and straight intercepted the thing. What the hell kind of person does that...the shirt was supposed to be for the little KSU fan and a grown effing man steals it from him by reaching above his head."
Texas Tech win doesnt look so great now, does it? Yes, A&M is much tougher place to play than Lubbock. Thats just my opinion. Still thoug, Mizzou threw that game away. The NEB game is a toss up.
JP - no other fanbase in America claims that they're the classiest ones in America. If you're going to call yourselves classy, you better durn well make sure you're all some classy folks. If a Colorado fan did it, I wouldn't mind, or if a KU fan did it. But when a self-proclaimed classy fan does it, it's different...downright hypocritical.
Yep, you can't be classy fans unless every single person is a perfect gentelman at all times.
Chris, what you saw is outrageous. I believe that we should track this person down, and beat them, no wait, kill them, and their entire family. A person from Nebraska who has taken the "classiest fan" pledge, knows that the price to be paid for such action is death.
Whatever happens, I would let this one act of treachery in the highest degree ruin the remainder of your life. I would make it your lifes work to mame, ney, DESTROY all things Huskers, no matter where they exist. Chris, you are justified in your anger, and contempt for the whole entire Husker fan base from now until the end of time. In fact, I would take that hatred with you to the grave, and have a Husker flag burning at your funeral.
Although, I must plead guilty. At a minor league game, I caught a t-shirt in the stands amongst jueveniles. I caught a little bit of grief from the surrounding fans, until they noticed that the shirt was given to my daughter, who would not have had a chance against those junior high boys.
Apparantly Callahan still hasn't gotten over Josh Freeman's decommitment...
When KSU gets Freeman some help, this rivalry could get mighty interesting...
