Back to "The Nebraska Way"

Man, when you guys said you were going to go back to “the Nebraska way”, you weren’t kidding were you?

Welcome back to Nebraska Quin Pelini…you haven’t been here a week, and you already have your QB of the future, Pat Witt charged with disturbing the peace, trespassing, 3rd degree assault by menacing threats (ooo..that’s a good one) and minor in possession by consuming and possession of a fake ID. (Which..let’s face it…who here hasn’t?). And right off the bat, old Bo is doing things just the way dear old Tom would have…

“This matter will be dealt with internally”. Wow….that’s good stuff. Really Bo? When? In between running 4 and 4 drills in Baton Rogue? Perhaps via videophone? Or better yet, is Witt going to be punished by serving drinks at Nancy Osborne's next Bunko night?

Now I know what you’re saying….dude came into Lincoln with a 4.0 GPA, and now is charged with making threats and physically pushing an officer…(and then ran from him). It must be Callahan's fault! I realize we’re going to get the whole “boys will be boys” line from most of you…but come on. This isn’t exactly throwing a paper cup at some girl’s car now is it? (Looking back on that..you all should have been proud JC even hit the car with his accuracy).

So will Pelini slam the hammer down on Paddy Witt and make an example out of him? Will he simply wait for the cameras to turn off, give him a hug and a wink and tell him to play it cool next time? Only time will tell. I will give you credit though…just when I think we’re in an absolute black hole of topics…along comes a Husker QB to get into it wih the law. If Callahan's precident still stands...look for P Witt to be learning his lesson from Larry the Cable Guy's suite in week one.

Why I didn’t predict this a while ago is beyond me. Should be interesting to see how this whole thing pans out. I’m sure by the time LSU is done with their season, all will be forgotten. (If it isn't already)

Seems like old times indeed.

AJ

PS – SAVE it Creighton fans. I realize some of you went to school there. Some of you may have gone to a basketball camp in 1986 or whatever. Regardless, it doesn’t give you an excuse to completely distance yourself from Husker fans. DO NOT Pretend like you don’t cheer for Nebraska football, because I know for a fact 95% of you do. Why should you get a free pass? Poor TRUE Husker fan doesn’t get a pass. His team is off losing to SIU-Edwardsville and Western Kentucky, but at least he only acts like a prick from March through January.

Creighton fan earns a special place in my heart, not because they “cheer for a winning team”, but because they “cheer” for a fraud. It would be one thing if the Brie Jays were actually some sort of dominant force in college basketball.

They’re not.

If your biggest win of the season is 5 point rout over Northern Iowa…your team isn’t very good. I don’t care how many “mid major” upsets go on in March…he’ll PATRIOT LEAGUE teams win in the tourney…but their fans don’t act like arrogant jackasses about it.

And no, it doesn’t help that certain media outlets around here stick their tongue in Dana Altman’s ear. To top it off, everybody already knows that when Creighton was playing at the Civic and the press room was catered with pretzels and Mountain Dew, nobody with a camera gave a rat’s ass about you. But now that Orange Ruffy and Crème Brule are on the menu, here comes the hype machine.

It’s sickening.
It’s disgusting.

And I’m already sick of it…and it’s not even Christmas yet.

Ugh

aj,

can i make one simple request if i may? can you please not refer to bo as "quin pelini", but as "king bo" as you first proclaimed him? thanks, because the whole quin pelini thing is going to get old fast, and he could be here for awhile, so for my reading pleasure, please always refer to him as "king bo", you can mock him, i can love him, and everyone can be happy? thanks for your consideration.

Being a former Nebraskan who now lives in Washington (the state), I'll tell you of a true basketball program turned powerhouse: Washington State Cougars.

Tony Bennett is not some boring old middle age man who can't commit if he is coming back or not. He is a young guy who has turned the program into a top ten team, winning coach of the year in the process.

I would love for the Cougars to come and kick the ass of Creighton. I hate, hate hate that school.

-D.J.

P.S. Keep up with the Quin Pelini.

Good God Man! How long did it take to come up with the crap you wrote about this time?

We all know Witt being as smart as he is (around a 4.0 GPA according to some reports out there) did what he did just to give you more stuff to write about.

You better come up with better stuff on your own or this is going to be a long Bowl Season.

Nice take on the Northern Iowa comment. As a UNI grad and having parents that are both Creighton grads, I always get phone calls year round talking about the 2 point thrashing my Panthers took at the hands of Creighton in their NBA-like arena. Also I completely agree about how cosmopolitan Bluejay basketball is these days. Growing up outside of Omaha, my parents had season tickets for basketball, and as usual, I would go with them before the game, and they would drink beer and eat popcorn, and the Jays would roll over their opponent inside that hell hole of an arena. I went to a game last year, for the first time since they moved to the Qwest, and it made me sick. Keep up the good work AJ. Long time listener...first time writer. Good Luck in the Cotton Bowl.

AJ - please keep the QP going! I just started reading your blog earlier this season and was completely lost on the whole GRF (??) references. I did finally figure it out, but now I feel like an insider. ;)

My only comment on Quin is that while his coaching may have been lacking, his eye-candy status with the ladies was a real draw. While I love seeing a special teams player run full force down the field and nail someone, having a good looking coach on the sidelines is never a bad thing. I know what a nickel package is, believe tight ends should always be used for more than blocking and think Eric Crouch may be the player least likely to have ever deserved a Heisman , but I am still a girl and want to see some man-candy on the sidelines. God knows male cheerleaders are pointless.

AJ,

If you got your homework done as fast as P Witt you would probably try and go and find some trouble to get into as well.

Andrew, that was kinda funny.

Coach, I got your message but accidentally rejected it. Oh wait..no I didn't...you know where I live. ;)

As for KU in the Orange Bowl...thanks for reminding me that game is even being played. With all the over-saturtion of media hype on that game...I nearly forgot about it.

So Nebraska fans suck because they like a team that was dominant for 40 years, give or take... And Creighton fans suck because they like a team that sucks.

Doesn't that make them Missouri fans?

AJ, although I anonymously bash you on here quite frequently, and as much as I hate Mizzou , there is one thing I hate more:

Bandwagon KU fans

Living here in Kansas City, right on the Missouri // Kansas border, I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing worse than Jayhawk fans. First off, what the fuck is a Jayhawk, secondly, it is amazing how many Jayhawk "football fans" have sprung up here in the last few months.

NE-JHawk question for you:

What has two thumbs and Bradley // Bucknell t-shirts?

THIS GUY!!! Now go make out with your boyfriend while you "wave the wheat" you homo.

And also to go with what OHF said go with "King Bo", not "Quin Pelini". I just don't see Bo snorting lines of coke and banging his player's girlfriend quite like ole Quin did.

Yes, Nebraska fans suck because their team was dominant for so many years.

You actually broke it down to it's most granular level.

Props.

PS - The Quin comment was funny..although you don't know if Pelini does that or not.

Anonny....

We may have fair-weather fans...but I'm not one of them. I see at least 4 KU FB games a year.

And I ask you what's worse? Having bandwagon fans? Or having your bandwagon fans cheer for another college (Creighton) because your team is BEYOND bad and wouldn't know what a bandwagon looked like if it ever came rolling along?
