Good Lord...crazy crazy night.
OK, I can see Missouri losing to Oklahoma. My God are those guys big and fast, and Stoops may be a jackass..but that guy can play chess with the best of them. But West Virginia losing to Pitt? PITT!?!?! Are you kidding me? And as I type this, Hawaii is getting worked over early against a 4-8 Pac 10 team?
I’m all for chaos and frenzy around the crappy BCS…but this is a bit ridiculous. I’m like you though, I have absolutely no idea what is going to happen. (Although Kansas to a BCS bowl is a joke..but whatever, that’s how the system works.)
And speaking of a mess….ESPN reports that Bo Pelini is your coach…but now he’s not? Is Pelini that much of a liar that he’s going to deny the reports until Monday and then go…”OK, I was kidding, I am going to take the job.” Is Tom Osborne out golfing? Is Houston Nutt on a plane? What the hell is going on!?!?!
Speaking of freakiness, nice to see your boy Steve Pederson head back to Pitt, and in his first game back ,they upset #2 on the road. Karma perhaps? Probably not..but still kinda funny.
Anyhow, because I know some of you are looking for anything to grasp at…my thoughts.
Nothing wrong with losing to an Oklahoma team who is bigger, faster and more prepared. They played at a whole other level, and as soon as Mizzou got inside the OU 30 on their first drive of the 2nd..and had to punt…it was pretty much over. Curtis Lofton? Wow. Pinkel and Chirstensen have done an outstanding job this year, but give Brent Venables credit, they have the horses to blitz on every play, and yet still have the speed on the outside to stay with the bubble screens and slants. Sometimes you win..sometimes you lose..and sometimes you get thumped. Take it like a man, and learn from it.
Overall, a disappointing night to be that close..but hey…at least Missouri lost to a good team, and not Pitt…or Stanford, or Kentucky or Colorado or any other of a wide variety of crappy teams that derailed top ten squads this year. If you would have told me my team would have been 11-2, 30 minutes from the BCS title game, and at WORST a Cotton Bowl birth (first January 1st bowl in 37 years)…I’d probably take it. A great season for a program that has sucked donkey sack my entire life.
Like I said…it stinks…but it doesn’t stink as much as giving up 600 yards passing to Ball State, or giving up 76 to a KU team that is a proven fraud.
Oh well, it was a great Big 12 season this year. Should be interesting to see how the computers and polls come out tomorrow with such a gigantic mess on our hands.

Hold your head high AJ. Your team excelled this year but got pinkled at the end. You'll take some abuse over this loss. These attacks will come from Nebraska fools who are afraid to look in the mirror. They'll look to deflect the disatisfaction with their own team by attacking you. However, as you've pointed out for the last three years, the problem lives here.

College football is an emotional game!
If that little exercise left over from the "Recent Unpleasantness between States" didn't happen last week, Mizzou whups OU!
Next year, the Tiggers gotta schedule ISU before the big one!
There might be a letdown involved, but OU simply played more physical...plus the scheme they used on defense was flawless.
The ONLY way Mizzou could have attacked OU (and they probalby should have) was to go vertical on them. Unfortunately, Daniel was flushed so many times (and possibly too scared of making a mistake) that there simply was no opportunity.
They shut down teh run in the second half as well, which put MU in passing situation..thus OU pinned their ears back.
Bob Stoops is a greasy, piece of shit cheater with no morals, no class and no hint of sportsmanship...but he's good..and he flat out took it to Missouri last night.
SHould be interesting to see where the Bowls send them. I'm reading a lot this morning that the Fiesta may go with ASU over Kansas. That give the Orange bowl the chance to take Missouri over Kansas..depending on how far they fall.
Either way..it's more exciting than trying to guess what inexpierenced hype-machine will become the team's next coach.

I am a normal fan, that is why I have realized that NE, and Misery have switched places. See you are now going to be the hunted one. You are going to be the team that everyone is after, and you will see that Misery will not be liked, and if by some miracle they can keep winning. You will find that it is not easy to be at the top, and that it hurts even more when your team hits rock bottom.

Since Hawaii won, there's at least a decent shot that the Fiesta wants another OU/WAC matchup. It was the best of the BCS games last year. Frees up the Orange to take Mizzou since WVU shit themselves too. WVU could get passed up to the Sugar.
Good point. Seems to me, despite winning the Big East that you should get punished for losing to a 5-7 team at home. Same goes to USC, losing to Stanford.
I realize they won their conferences, and thus get in...but you would think those kind of losses would be held against you more than two losses to a top 5 team.

I enjoyed watching the game last night! I knew at the end of the first series that your beloved Tigers were going to be exposed for the frauds they are! Let me save you the trouble of rewriting your responses on our season bud. We ended the season at 5-7 and had our ass handed to us in several games. Our defense was flat out pathetic shameful is a better word. Moreover, yes we all are fully aware of the fact that we will not be bowling this year. Yadda yadda yadda! We were what we were bud, bad!
In addition, let us not talk about our future but just in case you cannot resist let me save you some finger wear. Yes TO did appoint himself acting coach, and yes, we will be announcing the hiring of an unproven Defensive Coordinator as our new head coach in a little over an hour. We can argue over that stuff in future posts.
Let us focus on where you sit right now bud. You got so close you could smell it! Man, it has to hurt, oh, I know you think like me in this regard and know there wasn’t anything you could do to make a difference and you did like I would have and attended the game to show your support, that’s what all good fans do who believe in the team they follow.
I feel your pain AJ; your team let you down last night. In addition, do not toss us that crap about “they overachieved” or that “you didn’t think they would be there so it doesn’t matter” because we both know your lying! They took a step up the ladder of success and they were blasted off before they made it to the top, and it hurts!

Hey, it's been a crappy season and this is what is left - rooting against other teams: if my team isn't enjoying success, then by god, no other team from the Big XII North should see it either - bad for recruiting. As for OU, I now want them to lose their bowl game.
Stoops can play chess well, but not consistently. Cases in point: losses to LSU and USC in NC games; loss to KSU in Big XII championship; upsets by CU and TTU this year. The only team that had clearly superior talent was USC, so that's not an upset but getting blown out? As an NU fan, I'm familar with my team getting blown out.
Finally, AJ, your boys quit in the fourth quarter last night ... they started giving up near the beginning of the quarter. It's going to be tough, emotionally, for that team to "get up" for its bowl game.
11-2 though, and playing on New Year's Day - NU fans would trade places with you in a second. Congrats.

I don't care if Mizzou got sent to Boise, nothing was sweeter than the satisfaction of knowing that KU is a complete fraud, and it was not settled on a conference call or on a polling ballot..but on the field.
I have absolutely no qualms about it in any way shape or form. I don't see any of that BCS money. KU isn't playing for a National title. They're playing in the last of the BCS bowls on a Wednesday night...when all of 85 people will be watching. (Most of them from Topeka.)
Who cares.
Besides (and since Andrew is dumb, I'll remind him)...wasn't it YOU Husker fans who told me last year that the Cotton Bowl was EXACTLY like getting into a BCS game? If I recall, I remember quite a few readers on this comment page, telling me all about the tradition and nostalgia of playing in a great old New Years day game against an SEC opponent.
It's also in a town where Mizzou is HUGE in recruiting, with a Quarterback who is from there.
So once again...is it ridiculous and stupid? Yup. Is KU worthy of it? I'll let the national outrage and snickering tell you.
But besides all that...MOST IMPORTANTLY of all....I'll take winning on the field over anything else. If you're ignoring that...well, you're just dumb.

Your whole line of argument--that NE fans need to wake up to what is/has been reality for most teams, adjusting expectations an all that) has been bolstered by SP and BC's incompetence, which played into your hands.
Now that we have a special coach who is smart enough to tap into the quasi-spiritual thing that I'm sure you sense (and detest) living among us, it will become clear to everyone that NE is in fact an EXCEPTIONAL place for college football.
After this small dose of reality, Nebraskans will rediscover that life-affirming myth that they know football better than everybody else. And shove it down your throats.
Every single town in the state supports NE football, all of the time, and, yes, we all believe in 'magic,' which is the most beautiful part of the game of football. Just think about that for a sec, AJ, and all the solace future players will take in that.
Once BP taps into that secret weapon (something BC was too dimdwitted to do), your one-hit wonder teams will revert to being exactly that. You know this to be true, and you fear it so much that I'll bet you're pissing yourself right now. Prepare to be envious for another 30 years.

AJ - I didn't truly believe until now; God really does hate Mizzou. How else can one explain the following:
1. The utter dominance that OU displayed in kicking your asses out of the National Title game - so close to a conf. title as well, which would have added....ummm no...been Mizzou's first in your lifetime, right?
2. Mizzou going to the Cotton Bowl rather than a BCS game - the Cotton is a great bowl, but its not a BCS game

It makes me laugh to know that Mizzou is still Mizzou - What do you think the chances are that an 11-2 Nebraska team in an identical position to Mizzou would not have been taken by a BCS bowl (slim to none) - so despite your best efforts at relevancy, you still have none!
