Quick Saturday Notes

Couple of notes on a gorgeous football Saturday. (Seriously..why are you reading this? Get the hell outside and come back later.)

- Not sure why everybody is predicting death blows for K-State. Louisville isn’t the pseudo-power they once were, but that’s still a pretty difficult place for them to win. I’m not sure what their fans think, but I certainly wasn’t expecting TOO many miracles. Granted I thought there was a chance their JUCO players could develop, and who knows..they might. But Josh Freeman is pressing way way too hard at this point. (And yeah, you can tell he isn’t getting much help. The loss of Jordy Nelson may be bigger than people think.)

- Great win by Colorado the other night. That defense is kinda nasty, and no matter what West Virginia has shown this season tripping over their own feet at East Carolina, they do have some serious speed. The key to me for Colorado is to get Hawkins more comfortable in the pocket. Not sure why, but it seems it takes him a while to get wound up and fire. West Virginia has a decent defense (I guess)..but they’ll never be compared to the 75 Steelers. I expect more of the same out of CU, with a few wins over teams they are underdogs to, and perhaps a loss where it isn’t expected when somebody jumps out to a big early lead. Regardless, that’s the second best team in the North if you ask me.

- Holy hell was I pulling for Baylor last night. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that the young Bears have some serious speed and quickness on board. There were actually times last night where I wasn’t even sure I was watching Baylor. Granted, they are extremely young and inexperienced, but UConn is a quality team and winning on the road at night is never easy. It’s too bad they play in a wicked division, or I’d be excited for what the future brings for them. And yeah…I wouldn’t be shocked if they pulled an upset or two later in the season.

- Ryder Cup: Don’t care. Never have cared. Never will care. 14 millionaires battling for a trophy that isn’t that big in an event that really doesn’t mean that much anymore. ESPN can stop bombarding me with it as soon as possible please.

- Most interesting game of the day: Va Tech at North Carolina. Let’s see how Taylor handles a sea of Carolina blue prior to his trip to the heartland and 85,000 “BoKnowsDefense” shirts. I’m not expecting much out of the Hokies, but it will be rather telling to see how they play now that they’re settling down with their lineup a bit.

- I’m sorry, but I’m not convinced Georgia and Arizona State are two of the better teams in the country tonight. Granted, I give the Dawgs credit for traveling more than 200 miles for a road game for the first time since the Kennedy administration, but as I said last week…I was extremely unimpressed with their performance in Columbia, SC last week. For ASU, I guess we’ll see if the guy who kicked J.C. Keller out of town was worth all the fuss.

- Cox Communications is adding Fox Sports Net HD 1/3 through the college football season and at the very end of baseball season. Thanks a lot for your excellent timing. Can’t wait for my bill to go up 10 bucks a month when the HD additions are all added on.

- Omaha Royals are leaving? Don’t care anymore. The whole thing is tired to me. Other than the NCAA, pretty much everybody loses. The Royals lose their home of 30 years. The city loses 150 million dollars to build a mediocre stadium that will sit empty 50 weeks a year. South Omaha loses. Pretty much everybody loses. Nice going everyone…good thing you wore a kilt on your date with Dennis Pope and the rest of the evil pricks that make up the NCAA.

Enjoy watching the games or the Apple Festival or whatever it is you people do when the Huskers aren’t playing.

Good post on a number of topics.

First one EVER that didn't get me a bit pissy.

KSU does have some serious problems, not sure how it can be addressed without some coaching changes. Those poor players really have been delt a bad hand with all the assistants coming and going.

Finally, Baylor does appear to have a football team........did I just say that!

Gomer

ps: I hope the Tigers win this week, but not by much. I just have to go for Buffalo because of their Coach. He has all the tools to be really big someday.

#1 - Nobody asked you.

#2 - The loss of Jordy Nelson will certainly be more important than Josh Freeman thought.

#3 - Keep propping up the next team in your North rankings for the next couple of weeks. Colorado ain't shit and you know it. CU didn't win that game, WVU lost it when their coach had a brain fart.

Glad to see Baylor getting some props.... And hey, even if their football team can't pull off an upset this Fall they've got a pretty darn good basketball team to root for.

Daddyact, you and the rest of husker nation, keep telling yourselves CU ain't shit. Of course had you actually watched the game, CU was two plays from breaking open the game 28-7 in the first half. We will hear the same chorus this week as last week: CU is about the get rolled by WVU...uh I mean FSU. I would like to see NU deal with the likes of White and Devine and see how they do. Good luck with Va Tech cause you are going to need it. The best defensive coach on the field this Saturday by far, will be Bud Foster, not Bo Peep, and hopefully you get to watch it in person.

Hey Bornred.

Responded to your dumb ass trying to call me out on AJ's last post.

Nice try fucktard.

Even AJ knew what I was doing when I posted that joke about HIS opinions.

It's interesting the way you count, but you're details don't mesh with the '98 team, bubba.

What you were describing was the '99 team.

hey, buffuped,

The point was that they didn't break it open. DID THEY???

And I watched every down of the game, idiotstick!

White and Slaton? Now that would be a game, but White and Devine? Devine has no game yet. Too small and apparently too slow.

That being said, your boys got lucky and you know it. When they lined up for the FG you were scared to death that WVU was going to win the game.

Speaking of which, how the hell did they shut your great offense down for three quarters? What a dynamite offense that must be. Be grateful you had the freshman RB. Without him, you'd have no offense at all.

I'd be willing to make a bet. Anything you want. CU will lose this week to FSU, while NU wins over VA Tech.

Anything you want to bet.

Now there's a brave Husker prediction. Picking the 6.5 point favorite to win at home, and picking the 6 point underdog to lose on the road. Wow, if that comes true, you'll have to call yourself the 'husker psychic'. Very impressive.

Alright, I'll bet you. After Saturday, when CU wins, and NU loses, you have to come on this board, admit that NU ain't shit... and then keep your mouth shut for the rest of the season.

If (and only if) CU loses, and NU wins, I'll do the same.

Haha..how long did it take you to type all those numbers out? (Let alone find the help from a grown up to count that high.)

Thanks for proving my biggest point on this blog.

Nobody gives a fuck about titles from 1903. Nobody gives a damn about anything other than the fact that you spent about 15 minutes trying to show me how great you were in the late 19th century.

Well done.

PS - Stealing my material and trying to be funny is pretty lame too. If you're going to take the time to try and fight back...at least throw some originality into it.

It took me two minutes to come up with those numbers. It's called copy // paste and a spreadsheet.

And I'm sure a lot of people appreciate those numbers. It shows a soon to be 140 years of irrelevance of your so called program.

And you think you have it so rough living in Nebraska. Try being surrounded by white trash Mizzou fan & Zima sipping KU fags all combined into one city. Welcome to Kansas City.

Let it be known to all, I was wrong when I accused ne-jhawk of suggesting NU fans have less than average intelligence. Feel free to spell / punctuate in any manner you see fit.

PS. Which am I? dumbass or fucktard? Or, is it both? Gets confusing after awhile..

Not sure if I'd like to see him leave...kinda fun to have a chewtoy around here being pwn3d by just about everybody. I kind of think he's a troll from another school to make the Nubs look even worse.

Baylor does look improved and A&M looks horrible. Don't know how much Franchione left in the cupboard for them and I don't care enough to subscribe to some insider email newsletter to find out. But they were using reserve QB's as WR's in the Arky St loss. Maybe the Bears will crawl out of the cellar this season.

Hopefully the Clones will do the same and leave you know who in there.

Copy and paste? You just so happened to find a document that counts every year UP from 1879 or whatever it was?

The Buffs are a year away from the North title and two years away from competing for the big prize.
Fact is, you can't take CO lightly in Boulder. If you do, you will disappear in a fog of heavy breathing in the fourth quarter as you try to figure out what hit you.
I love your blog. Keep it up.

For you Mizzou fans heading from points south, i.e. Columbia, be sure to look on overpasses on I-29 North in the NW corner of Missouri, around Craig, for my annual Tiger support signs. They'll be in the northbound lane on Saturday, moving to the southbound on Sunday, if the Husker fans don't steal them all like they did last year. :( Poor sports!
