Instant Analysis - JC and the Great Game Robbery

A few knee-jerk reactions.

* Nice to see that Mo Purify wasn’t the only criminal on the field today. WTF was up with the non-call to end the game? Even the most die-hard kool-aid drinkers (and that’s pretty much all of you) need to realize that at the very least..even if that’s uncatchable…that’s holding. Absolutely horrible call..especially with that much time left, and an All-American kicker on the other sideline. Absolutely brutal.

* JC Keller is one more shitty game away from losing his “JC” status. Is it just me, or does it look like he’s out there on about 15 Mountain Dews? Does he always hop around like that in the pocket? Why does it take him 10 seconds to wind up? Very very very unimpressed by Keller. 2TD’s and 3INT’s so far? Sounds like Heisman material to me.

* You have officially forfeited ANY ability to crack on Gary Pinkel or ANY other coach in the nation as far as bad game management. 4th and 2 on the WF 40 yard line…their QB hasn’t thrown a clean pass all day and is visibly scared out of his mind…and you run OFF-TACKLE!?!?! Are you friggin kidding me? Does he realize there were still 2 minutes left? Does he know Wake has an All-American kicker? Does he realize that all Wake had to do…before the refs bent them over…was get about 30 yards, and it was at least tied? Was it that hard to trot the punter out there and make that kid go 90 yards with 1 time out? That guy made the Nevada QB look like Joe Montana. Horrible horrible horrible decision by the GRF.

* Wake is obviously a decent team, who has played in some big games. But with the complete and total absence of a quarterback with ANY sort of ability to throw a forward pass, you did everything you could to give away that game. Why even throw that ball to Bowman in the 4th? Why not call time out..walk over and hand it to him. Double covered?
* Mo Purify laughed when he dropped a pass in the 1st quarter. Good thing you threw away your principles to get him on the field quicker. Did he even suit up in the second half? I hardly heard his name.

* Your defensive front four was exposed badly today. Not sure if it was the misdirection..or the fact that they couldn’t believe Wake called the same end-around, fake-end-around and halfback five play over and over and over again..but they looked like crap.

All in all..a win is a win. Actually..I’m kinda glad you got over and pulled that one out..because had you lost..you’re looking at 3-2 (if you beat ISU) going into Columbia..and that would KILL the odds of an 8pm ESPN game. Despite what else happens today…I’d be a bit more concerned now that a real team (with real personnel issues) nearly beat you with their backups.

Good luck against that crappy West Covina Junior College next weekend.

Viva la Trojans
More tomorrow morning.

aj (ass jockey):

A win is a win. It was not as bad as you make it out to be.

All in all it was a good day the Huskers pulled one out, AND they gave you some material to work with for the next seven days.

Have a great week!

Your team blows. Your all-world QB is Jerry Gdowski and you struggled with a team that ran all of three different plays.

And by the way..if that was YOUR team who got screwed on that call at the end of the game....there would be fire in the streets. (You still bitch about Penn State in 82, ya friggin whiners)

You're a fraud.

If everybody doesen't know it now...wait til Saturday night.

Enjoy that with a tube of KY Cletus.

AJ,
Can I just tell you, in a nonhomosexual way, I love you? I was trying to figure out how I could possibly find a positive in Nebraska looking like a Div. II team and still winning a game and you did it. Im getting ready to watch my Buffs lose, but at least you kept me in the game,
Fuck NU

Some Husker fan on a message board tonight said "NU wins the North by default" after viewing today's action.

Really?

Mizzou is 2-0, and scores 500 points per game. Ok, they give up 400 points per game, but they're still scary.

KU is 2-0, by a combined 2,293 to 7. CMU pounded Toledo today, making last week's win look better.

K-State is 1-1 against the best overall competition so far. Still a lot of question marks, but still a competitive team.

CU currently leads Arizona State, 14-0.

Iowa State sucks. Husker fan can chalk that up as a win.

And I agree about Keller and his happy feet in the pocket. That's the weirdest dance I've ever seen in my life, and he hasn't even faced a really good defense yet.

AJ,

You've been saying this whole time that Wake is no slouch (jesus, it's not like they are bottom feeders of their conference *cough-Illinois-*cough (who, in case you think this kind of bullshit is relevant, had problems putting Western Illinois away today) or *cough-Ole Miss-*cough), they did win the ACC last year and played in a BCS bowl. Today was a sloppy game and to be honest, half the time the D looked like they had their feet in cement. I blame the coaches for not keeping them focused. The O-line might have read too many clippings comparing them to some of Tenopir's units from the 90's, but they looked nothing like that. Don't throw out the bad call card 'cuz every team has to deal with that and over time it basically evens out (okay, unless you are Mizzou, I'll give you that you seem to get more of the big ones than other programs). I will say that after two games, the Huskers have seemed to benefit more so far from them, which probably means we're going to get some against soon.

Keller was barely okay today. For a senior, I'm surprised at some of his decisions and he was clearly not comfortable today.

Bottom line, we're 2-0 and unless there is some new obscure BCS calculation that takes into account how the win "looked", I could give two shits. Since they were supposed to "ass rape us sideways with a tire iron" and they didn't come close to that, not sure how you can now write that we suck for beating them, but hey, it's your world, I'm just swinging by for a visit

By the way, at this point of the season, LSU and Oklahoma are head and shoulders above the rest of the pack... including USC. Michigan is close..... to the bottom. This is why polls should not even be published until teams have played a couple of games....

So predictable. Lead in with a rant on the officials?

What kind of journalism is that, AJ?

Did Missouri play today?

You're Bragging about THAT performance?!?!?! And you're going to prediction smack?

Holy fucking shit...you are pathetic.

Wow..I can't believe how weak that is..especially considering if the Refs dont' fuck Wake...it's 24-20 possibly.

God you people are funny.

We won the game after turning the ball over 3 times on the road against a pretty good football team. You point out the problems nu had defending the end around, but no mention of shutting them down later in the 3rd. You talk about how bad Keller looked, but no mention of how good he looked in the 2min drill and at other times. Ill take the good with the bad, and a W.
We definately have to play better to win against the better big 12 teams, including Mizzou.

AJ,

How long do you think it be before the Cornholer faithful begins bragging about this Wake Forest team?

It seems to me that they started out looking past Wake Forest only to squeak out a win. Many of them now concur the team looked poor, but are now looking forward to USC.

So how long before this disillusioned fanbase looks back on this game and fabricates they beat a phenomenal team. The 2006 ACC Football Champion. They might even claim this team should have been ranked.

Think it will go another couple of weeks before these claims are made? End of the season?

How about late December, when they realize the early-January New Orleans hotel reservations they made right after the Nevada game are now worthless?

What do you think?
