Sunday Morning QB - Hypocricy on Parade

My my my…isn’t this interesting?

These are the days that I love writing about NU fans. Oh sure, watching you implode and lose 70-10 was fun. And yes, Oklahoma State running up and down the field on you last year was mildly amusing as well. But the days where you are at the top of your insecure game are days like today. These are the days that I can’t wait to fire up my PC…grab a cup of coffee, and check out to see just what idiotic sewage drips out of your keyboards.

Let’s start with the positives first shall we?

Mocking your uncreative and extremely predictable attitudes not withstanding, I’m well aware that Nebraska…at one point..was a very good program. I’m vaguely familiar with your National Titles (some of them weren’t even split with other teams), I’ve seen you play in person. I’ve watched highlight shows for years and years. I think it’s safe to say that deep down, I completely respect Nebraska’s standing as a ½ decent football program, that most likely will never sink to the depths of Kansas, San Jose or Florida International. (At least, I don’t THINK you will.)

So fast forward to the comments over yesterday’s game…where you very quickly (and predictably I might add), throw out the fact that I’ve told you for months that Wake is a pretty good team. And yes, I’ll readily admit Wake is a ½ decent team, who has won some big games in the past few years. (OK, last year). I’ll even give you the fact that the game was played on the road….although from the looks of it..that place was not only sold out..but apparently Wake Forest fans don’t really give a shit about their team very much. How do you not sell that out? Perhaps you’re not the draw you think you are? Regardless, what you are doing is choosing to ignore is the WAY you played against that team…pathetically (and unsuccessfully I might add) trying to spin the game is your only hope to save face, within the rapid oncoming realization that you just might not be as good as you thought.

I like how last week you instantly threw at me, “Don’t even think about using Wake’s injured QB as an excuse”. Ummmm….no. Did any of you actually WATCH the game? Do any of you have enough common sense to recognize when a QB sucks? That kid under center for Wake yesterday was horrible. I’m not saying that as the unbiased blogging columnist that I am…I’m saying it because it was true. Is it mildly upsetting to you that Wake outgained you, running the same three plays over and over and over again? Did it cross your mind that BC last week held that team to TWO yards rushing? (For you math majors..that’s 1+1).

That kid at QB COMPLETELY changed the game, and you STILL nearly lost. The best part is, I haven’t even touched on the fact that they dropped a wide-open pass, nor have I mentioned today (yet again) the fact that the refs completely bent them over, on one of the worst non-calls I’ve ever seen to end a game.

Let’s face it: Bashing Gary Pinkel right now isn’t going to make JC Keller hit open receivers. Mocking my creative writing skills isn’t going to make Mo Purify give a shit and actually CATCH a ball that hits him in the hands. Throwing out names to me that would make a 5th grader roll his eyes isn’t going to make your D-line any faster. (They’re very very slow).

I find it more than amusing that you’re throwing out the “A win’s a win” card, when just last week, a vast majority of you mocked teams like Missouri for doing the exact same thing. (twice now). Nothing to me is more hypocritical (and funny) than watching you lecture the rest of us that it’s all about rolling up yards one week..and then doing a 180, and proposing that NONE of that matters. Even worse, you’re touting Wake Forest as the same team that won 10 games last year….which may still be true. However, that Wake forest team is now 0-2, and is being run by a first year QB, who was limited to running draw plays on 3rd and 6 in NU territory.

Look, I understand more than anyone your insatiable need to be recognized for your greatness. TRUST me, I do. But you’ve backed yourself into this corner, and now you have to prepare to deal with the after-effects.

JC isn’t NEARLY as good as you thought
Your O-line looked choppy at times
Your D-line is slow and inconsistent
Your DB’s can’t handle physical receivers
Your special teams play is average at best
Your running game is predictable
You have the 5th best set of WR’s in the conference. (if that)

And what does all this say about your coaching staff? We already know what magic Kevin Cosgrove can run, but when an “Experienced leader” like JC is getting delay of game penalties because he doesn’t know what to do…isn’t that a problem with the coaching staff? Isn’t it an issue with the guy you just gave 1.75million per year to, when you make the IDIOTIC call to go for it on 4th and 2 at the opposing 40? (Especially when the opposing QB has the throwing ability of an 8th grade girl. Granted, the 8th grade girl might have more experience than him).

But don’t worry right? Help is on the way right?

Ummmmm maybe not. Remember when you guys were talking about Blaine Gabbert leading you through a smooth transition next year? Remember when you touted him as a 4 year starter right off the bat? Well, Blaine may not get to start his game next week…and it aint because of injury.

(Link)

Perhaps he would play a bit better if you idiots would stop text messaging him, and filling his head with delusions that NOBODY could possibly live up to. The end of Joe Millionaire was easier to predict than this.

* Speaking of answering questions…I find it pretty funny that some of you..with nothing else left in the cannon apparently, have tried to smack Missouri in defense of your own teams shitty performance? Umm…since when was winning by 13 on the road to an SEC team not good enough? Last time I checked, a double digit win wasn’t anything to be real concerned about. What’s that? 500 yards given up? Ummm..perhaps you might be a bit more worried about your slow-defensive lineman and linebackers trying to chase the big Tiger receivers up and down the field. And for the record, the same QB you guys mock for his youtube antics is 68 for 96 (71%), for 690 yards, 8TD’s and 0 int’s. Does it really matter if the Tigers give up 500 yards if their offense is scoring at will?

The problem there is, in the spread offense, it’s hard to grind the ball out. Plus, if your offense is scoring in 3 minute spurts…isn’t it a bit much to ask your defense to be at the top of their game when you’re up 28 and have to be on the field still for 40 minutes solid?

My biggest worry as a Mizzou fan is that they’ll be looking ahead to OU, because in that environment, with that matchup and seeing how JC handles pressure…might be a long evening for you. I’m sure we might talk about that game here a time or two in the meantime. Either way, if you, as a Husker fan, are not a bit more worried this morning about that matchup, you might want to lay off the meth and come down a bit before you start making idiotic statements like that.

More to come in a few days. I’d add some more, but I have an Elite 11 QB awards ceremony to go to. (I’m being named MVP). Apparently, they give those things away like candy at a parade.

Who knew?

Enjoy USC week. Can’t wait to see you make an idiot out of yourself on Gameday.

"Your special teams play is average at best"

I think they are a little higher than that. Granted they may not be the best in the nation, or in the Big 12 for that matter, but they were the only consistant part of the game for us compared to the other areas we lacked...and boy did we lack in those areas.

With that being said though, if we can play C- football on the road against a somewhat decent team and pull out a win thats got to count for something. Of course USC won't be as merciful I'm guessing.

The funny and pathetically sad thing is seeing all the so-called Husker fans like your fellow Blogspotter's HuskerMike and FireBillCallahan spin this WIN on the ROAD against the defending ACC champion negatively. At least you, AJ, hate Nebraska. This a-hole HuskerMike is supposed to be a Nebraska fan and he feels this was a loss and not a WIN on the ROAD against the defending ACC champion. Do these morons not see what happens in other games? UCLA and Ohio State struggling at home against patsies. It's not 1994 anymore Dilberts. Nothing is easy. A win is a win. I can actually picture these pathetic Nebraska fans torn between wanting to win and wanting Callahan and Steve Pederson to fail. Absolutely sad and pathetic.

It's ON in talk radio land here in SoCal. It was all over the radio this morning and they're calling it a statement game for USC and their toughest road test of the year. They also are fully aware that anyone can win on any given Saturday and that Nebraska has talent. It's pretty amazing to hear them talk about Clay Matthews Jr. being a back-up LB who may have to step in for injured Brian Cushing at Nebraska. They feel Matthews Jr. will play more in the NFL than he will at USC. That's scary depth.

I can't wait to get to Lincoln on Friday. Go Big Red!!!

Just saw your comment on HuskerMike's site.

So AJ is the only one in the world who can define what a trap game is? It was a road game against the defending ACC champion who needed a defining win against a legendary program and almost got it while catching them looking ahead to the #1 team in America and a game that has been talked about for 3 years.

It was a TRAP. Trust me on this one. It may have been the quintessential trap game.

Nice try though.

Oh by the way. I'm really looking forward to your post about the top 50 team defenses so far this season. I realize Missouri has played a lethal schedule so far.. Illinois and Mississippi.

But do you realize Missouri isn't among the top 50 team defenses and their two opponents aren't among the top 50 team offenses? That's not real good.

I wouldn't get my panties in a bunch with confidence about October 6 if I were you.

Yes. I am the only one who can say it. You are not allowed, and you're a douchebag for even trying.

A trap to me is a Thursday night game in Troy Alabama, with absolutely nothing to gain.

A Saturday morning flag-football tussle in the park with a team playing at noon in front of a non-sold-out 31,000 people?

Not a trap.

When you were at Lincoln Northeast, weren't you smart enough not to look past your big game with Waverly to keep from thinking about Pius or whatever other shitty team you guys played down there?

That was not a trap.

PS - It doesn't matter if Lucky runs for 200...Mizzou may score 50 on NU. Call out Illinois and Ole Miss if you want, but 550+ yards and 71% is pretty good numbers against 1-AA teams...let alone BCS schools.

PS - Both Illinois and Mississippi won their only other games not against Mizzou this year. FYI.

And by the way..wont' be able to waud any panties. I'll be too drunk on 10/6.

AJ, I'm new to your blog. Maybe you've addressed this in the past...if so, I apologize. Why are you such a UNO honk if you hate Nebraska so much? Don't UNO hockey players live among you? Don't UNO fans sit next to you at stop lights? Don't UNO fans have unrealistic expectations about their seasons like Husker football and Missouri basketball fans? Aren't YOU one of THEM? I think you are. You've assimilated nicely. Welcome to Nebraska, fellow Cornhusker!

I was a UNO hockey season ticket holder for many years until this past season. The constant mediocrity and ZERO commitment to the people who supported that program caused me to leave.

I love hockey. I actually loved college hockey long before UNO got here. Unfortunately, they screwed up.

Doesn't have anything to do with "fellow Husker"..whatever the hell that means. If Bellevue University had a hockey team, I'd probably cheer for them too. (They don't do they?)

I have only been reading this website for two weeks, after a K-state fan gave me the website. As a born and raised Husker fan I initially thought that it was funny that someone actually took the time to berate the shortsighted Husker bandwagon fans that make up at most 10% of the total fan base. These are the fans calling into Travis Justice, the Jim Rose show, the ones that have forgotten most of Husker history. Now I think AJ is just a sad and angry man who doesn’t have anything else to do in his pathetic life than spew hatred on a group of people that have done nothing to him personally.

AJ,

Why do you waste hours of you life promoting hate?? To me it doesn’t seem worth it. What do you get out of it, a pat on the back from K-State, Mizzou, or Colorado fans??? Do you do for the money? I don’t understand and I think it’s pretty sad.

For one, I don’t think that there are nearly as many myopic Husker fans as you think. Many fans, including me, still remember the late 70’s, all of the 80’s, and the early 90’s, when we lost 13 out of 19 bowl games, were only 6-9 against Oklahoma, etc. In other words, if you are a realistic Husker fan you remember how difficult it is to be great, that most seasons are a disappointment, and that it is rare to win 9 games per season. By the way how many conference championships, 9-win seasons, and national championships have the Tigers won (0-0-0)? See, it’s easy from where you are sitting to judge us, it’s just like Cub fan judging Yankee fan. You haven’t had any success, yet you tell us that we don’t handle our success in the right way. Do you remember when K-state was bad, and then they had some moderate success in the late 90’s? I liked their fans better as losers because they were actually fun to be around. After some success the bandwagoners ruined their reputation as a fun loving fan base. Mizzou-fan isn’t any fun now (trust me I’ve been to Columbia, Boulder, Manhattan, and Lawrence and Columbia is the last place I would want to be on a game day), so I can’t even imagine how obnoxious you would be with moderate success like winning the Big XII north, not the conference, the division, because last I saw you haven’t even won that.

In short, you can judge our 10% obnoxious fans when you have some success, because until then you have no room to compare how Mizzou would handle it, and it’s easy to judge us when you suck.

This is the last 20-minutes I will devote to this website, as it has become a complete waste of my time. AJ feel free to continue wasting hours of your time on a worthless cause, and showing just how ignorant Mizzou fans really are.

I think that Saturday's provided minimal insight into the rest of the Huskers' season for the following reasons:

1. Still too early to tell how good any team is with the possible exception of LSU and OU who have been dominant (and maybe we know just how bad ND might be after two really ugly losses).

2. Just about every team, including the aforementioned LSU and OU teams will likely play at least one sub-par game this season and be glad to come away with a victory (ugly wins always trump pretty losses - Ohio State won a National Title with some of the ugliest football I have ever seen -similar to watching Eastern conference NBA basketball).

Now, having said that, I was disappointed that Nebraska looked very average and inconsistent on offense and occassionally porous on defense (although in their defense, WF did not score during the last 25 mins. of the game).

AJ - one last thing - you obviously feel WF was hurt by a poor call at the end and I agree that holding should have been called on the NU safety. However, coupled with your other point about the WF QB being so terrible, the missd call probably didn't matter as he would have likely just thrown 4 new incompletions (or a pick) on the new set of downs and only would have delayed the inevitable, right?

BB,

I'm not answering your same old question for the 9,000th time. I've written about it several times...I've explained it several times. I'm ont going to do it again, just because you're new.

I appreciate you stopping by...but I highly suggest you stick around a little bit before you go passing judgement.

You see..I'm not sure if you know this...but it tickles my balls to see some Husker fan..such as yourself, log on here and then give me a 100 paragraph diatribe on how pathetic I am.

I know exactly what I'm doing...just as I know EXACTLY why you went on and on about how wrong/messed up/pathetic I am. I do this little hobby of mine for about 21,000 reasons...but reason number one is for you to know that there are people in your own community who think you are a complete loser. There are people within the state lines who think this whole obsession with NU football is idiotic and based on lies and arrogant self-promotion.

I appreciate you stopping by...really I do. But if you think you're the first person ever to write that...or better yet..you're going to be the one person that makes me go, "You know what? He's right. I am pathetic"....then you're crazy.

I'm sorry this blog is not like every other space in cyberspace, where you all agree on everything..where you all stroke each other on how many poitns you're going to beat USC by. (You're not). It KILLS you people that somebody can be out there who doesn't respect your greatness.

I am that person.

Save yourself some typing next time, and just read along for a while. Maybe after a while...you'll get where I"m coming from.

Have a great day.

The Missouri week and his following bullshit explanations will be priceless.

Name a college football program in this country that doesn't fall under that jurisdiction. Also, obsessing over NU football idiotic? Would obsessing over a different football team be better? Every college football team in this country has supporters that can be classified as "obsessive"? Thats mainly what college football is all about...unless you rip the scrotum off a rival supporter. That may be taking it a bit too far.

Game at Wake FOrest was luke warm at best. Husker defense mustered one sack, which means what for you football athletes that got blown out in a championship game?

Nebraska has a tendency to look unprepared for the opponents offense and defense. In general, the team seems to under perform.

(Why are people talking about W.F. winning the ACC in 2006, this is a college program where students graduate, and a number of that Wake Forest did.)

It's this type of arrogant, self-centered bs that makes other people hate the "Greatest Fans on Earth." Is it just a coincidence that you started to dislike other teams' fanbases only when they start having success against your school? I think it's more along the lines of an obsessive fanbase feeling lost and confused when their team isn't king of the hill anymore, and venting their frustration on other schools and veiling their reactionary vitriol behind the excuse "Their fans changed and became a bunch of assholes."

And if you want to imagine how obnoxious MU fans can be after winning the North for the first time in a while . . . go watch a video tape of your team awarding itself a homemade trophy after winning the North last season before getting ass-clowned by OU in the Big XII Championship and then looking like dog-shit against Auburn in the bowl, all the while wearing "Order Restored" t-shirts.

First of all you don't sack a team like Wake much because they don't generally pass from the pocket. It's all quick two and three step drop stuff. The second part of your take doesn't even make any sense. "..which means what for you football athletes.." What the fuck are you talking about now?

JP , changing color from black to yellow does not = new site design. You not only are a husker idiot, you suck up to anti-husker website admin.

By the way, if you think getting lucky against a WF team that was a conference champ last year with different players, counts this year, you are just plain stupid.

Maybe your short term memory is better. Remember the ass kicking WF got just last week by a 25th ranked Boston College team??

WF is unranked , used a 2nd string virgin QB, is 0-2 for the year, and still had more offense than the huskers.

And would somebody please remind Bill C. which side he is on? He just doesn't get it what with 4th down, poor field position, and trying to protect the lead. Here yet again he single handedly tries to give the game away.

bigredfred,

Just out of curiosity, when we beat Mizzou in '97, did you consider that lucky?

I have no problem with Callahan's call to go for it on 4th and 2 from the Wake's 35. Let's look at his options

1) Field goal. It's long and Kunalic is pretty much untested on the road so why put him in this situation. If you make it, it's still a one possesion game, if you miss it, Wake gets the ball on their 42.

2) Punt. Try to pin them deep, but requires some finesse from this distance and if you put it in the endzone, they start at the 20 anyway.
3) Go for it. We will probably make that conversion more than 1/2 the times we try it and if you make it, game over.

Of the three options, if you execute (made field goal for #1, successful pootch punt for #2, or successful converstion for #3), the 3rd option clearly gives you the best opportunity to win. Plus, you said it yourself, they were playing with a 2nd string virgin QB, why not put it in the hands of your defense if you don't make it?

I didn't like the play he called. I would rather have seen some play action, but I don't mind putting it in the hands of your best player (Lucky).

You also can't compare the WF/BC game that Wake played on the road to the NU/WF game they played at home. Every game is different and by your comparison logic, since App State beat a #5 Michigan, they would have beaten every team in the top 25 below them... Not anywhere near the truth

Is 2-0 not good enough for you? Can we be any better than that right now?

JP, Thanks for showing us you know nothing about football.

That's the best you got? You better hope you fight better than that.

Don't worry, AJ. BHG won't show up for his beat down. I will be there though, just to keep my word and with the faint hope of seeing just how soft and gelatinous this a-hole really is.

You know, BHG suggested this rather weird meeting place. I guess he wanted to keep his and BigRedFred's secret spot at Peter Pan Park under wraps.

Ha ha.. If your audience was for 5 people, then why a blog? That's like using a tank to kill an ant.

If you didn't want to be read by more than 5 people, then a couple of emails a day would have done the trick and you wouldn't have needed to worry about CNNSI.

No, you definitely want to be read, not only by us myopic Husker fans, but also, as you've said many times on here, to show the rest of the world what we are like...

Color it how you like, but that sounds a lot like needing to be recognized for being right.

Personally, I'm glad you blog, but call a spade a spade...after all, you keep saying you're right, don't you?

Oh I'm all about shameless self-pomotion...but it didn't start out this way. It started out as a reply to a group of guys I used to work with who e-mailed me all the time. For a year or so, I did this as a joke, and only told a couple of people who I sat by at hockey games.

If ANYTHING, I want to be read so I could do this for a living. You'd be amazed (or maybe not) how little effort goes into building a blog like this. I love to write..always have. You people supply the ammo.

I have a guy I know from Reno do my website work for free (so he can use it in his portfolio) and the huskerh8er.com URL was donated by a very generous fellow Tiger fan.

I don't go out of my way to pimp this site. If I wanted to...I'd go to every message board on earth and plaster it everywhere. Luckily, the web and blogs are very common, and I got in early and got established.

It's a hobby, nothing more.

So yeah..who wouldn't want to be read? I just don't care for self-gratification purposes. You people toss off to AP polls.

Big difference.

PS - Today alone I've had 428 unique IP's, and all I did was post an American flag.

I'm proud of the fact that people enjoy coming here and I think I'm fairly good at writing.

I let you all have your opinion with minimal censorship. I don't bag on players and I never cross that line..although sometimes I might straddle it a bit.

There are 100,000 blogs devoted to every single team in America...but it takes a certain skill I think to find something new to bash just ONE team about day after day.

And if you don't like it...meh. It's your right to do so.

Clarify...I don't PERSONALLY bag on players.

If they suck on the field...they're fair game.

Who said I don't like it... obviously, I've been hanging around here for the last couple of months, I must be enjoying this. Hell, JP and I are battling the clowns and giving you more to mock us for, but I don't care, I have no problems making fun of myself.

You tell me that as a Husker fan, I need constant recognition that I'm right, I'm just saying this blog is nothing more than that same thing for you.

You don't agree, that's fine, but you seem to be going out of your way to prove to me that you're right, so....

PS. As I said earlier, today's post was a very nice touch. As someone who served my country, always glad to see our flag posted anywhere and today was a great day for doing it.

GOD doesn't think he is Bill Callahan!

Keep up the good work, those ASS CLOWNS in Nebraska need to see how the rest of the College Football World feels about them.
