Why Didn't You Listen to Me???

Well crap. Where do I start with you people?

Over the past couple weeks…actually since about mid-summer…I’ve been talking to you and about you. Now that the GRF™ experiment is officially over, let’s talk about me for a change.

I would now like to officially take credit for being right…on just about everything. In order for you to see a bit more clearly, I shall give you just some of the many examples of me knowing more about your team than you do. Once I lay this out for you, you’ll wonder why you ever doubted me.

- Bill Callahan had zero college head coaching experience. His one NFL job, he turned a Super Bowl team into a 4-12 disaster in ONE year. To top it off, he hired a defensive coordinator from a Big 10 school, who had never had one of his defenses rank in the top 40 nationally. Did you honestly think that this didn't matter?

- Rivals stars are a VERY SMALL part of the equation. You all got so excited, buying into the whole recruiting hype machine…you forgot to realize that somebody actually has to coach these kids. Also, somewhere along the way, you forgot that these kids actually had to play in a college game for their greatness to even get off the ground.

- The last three years were a fluke. Some of your biggest wins over the past five years included:
* A win at Colorado over a Buff team that quit on it’s coach.
* A win over a 5-loss Michigan team in a mid-level bowl they didn’t want to be at.
* A one point win at Texas A&M…a team that barely beat Army on the same field
* A 2 TD win at home against a Mizzou team that hasn’t won in Lincoln since 1978.

Meanwhile, you lost just about every single big game you played in last year. USC, Oklahoma, Auburn, Okie State and Texas. At what point, don’t you think your superior talent would have won…just one of those games? Did you realize also that Bill Callahan was 0-17 when trailing at the half? What does this tell you about your coaches? Just because you made a T-shirt and handed yourself a fictional trophy doesn’t mean anything.

- The West Coast offense will never work in college. Nobody runs it. The teams that do run it suck. Even Bill Walsh..the guy who invented it..failed miserably in college trying to run it. What makes you think you could have figured out how to do it?

- The national media was propping you up on name alone. Do you honestly think the ESPN talking heads of the world actually research your team? Or do they just assume you’ll be good because of what you used to be? Did any of them realize Marlon Lucky averaged 3.2 yards per carry last year over his last 8 games? Did they know JC Keller was 4-4 lifetime as a starter at the beginning of the year? Nobody did any research on you, because nobody gave a shit about you. They simply saw the rival stars..saw your slow march through a brutal Big 12 North …and just anointed you a top 15 ranking.

- You have no leadership. For some reason, most of you didn’t really care about the mental side of the game. This is especially important when you have coaches who treat players like an NFL franchise. When your players are calling their program an “organization”, you should know you have issues on the horizon.

* In catching the few minutes of the post-game call in show today, I heard all sorts of blame. Blame Peterson. Blame Callahan. Blame Solich. Blame the players. Do you know who the ONE person I didn’t hear getting blamed? Ironically, the one person who is most responsible for all of this in the first place.

It’s YOU…the fans.

YOU people are the ones who set ridiculously high expectations. YOU people are the ones who started celebrating your return to dominance LONG before you actually accomplished anything. It was you people who over-analyzed EVERYTHING and slathered on the pressure like Mark Mangino slathers on gravy on a Ham and cheese sandwich. Why didn’t you realize you were dealing with 18-22 year old kids? Why do you think they don’t feel that pressure? Could you live up to the pressure of being compared to 1995 day after day after day?

It was a plan doomed to fail…and now…just as I predicted…it has.

Zero congratulations to you for not listening to me for months. Had you done so, you probably wouldn’t be in the spot you are in today. You deserve this because you didn’t listen. You deserve the mocking snickers of other fans. You deserve the realization that you are easily one of the three worst teams in the whole conference. You deserve this simply because you needed a lesson to learn.

This should be an interesting week.

Nubbie could lose 7 in-a row this year.
With 2 in-a-row already in the books and:
Texas A&M
at #23 Texas
at #20 Kansas
Kansas St
at Colorado
on the way....
But they aren't that bad are they??
Inbred Cornbread is currently 4-3. Give them a win against A&M and maybe K-State, I guess you could put them at 6-6. Or if Can't-a-han wants to save his job beat CU for a 7-5 record.
Wait a minute, didn't Petey fire Solich for 9-3 and a win over CU.

So I guess we need to start looking for coaches:
Spurrier - not in this lifetime
Levitt - won't leave the state of FL
Venebles (OU D-coord) - would keep the 5-stars coming in
Pelini (LSU D-coord) - wait a minute, didn't NU already have him
--------------
Which only leaves:
Turner Gill
Mark Mangino
John Blake
Frank Solich
and pulling Gary Barnett out of retirement
Oh, plus there is Lou "I can't form a sentence" Holtz
--------------
Bring back Dr. Tom.... PLEASE

All true. No way these kids can live up to the hype. Yes, a look at you is in order. You're still an asshole. You've told me nothing I don't already know. You put all Husker fans in the same bucket, but we're not all the same. My team may suck, but your loser mentality trumps all. You can proclaim your personal greatness all day long, but you are a pretentious loser from Missouri with hurt feelings and an inferiority complex with a web site where you whip others of your kind into a frenzy to ease your pain. This makes you King of what? A web site for crybabies who want vindication? You have yet to figure out that by continuing your quest in your "little kingdom", your life will continue to increase in misery.

OU 41
MU 31

Suck it loser. It wasn't even THAT close. Mangino will be the next to have his way with you. Oh, I forgot, after Methzou loses 1 game, a tailspin is inevitably forthcoming. It's time for your crash and burn now loser! Every year they say this year is different. Every year they do the same thing. Will you blame us when it happens? Maybe it is time to take a look at AJ.

Missouri Husker fan...I realize this must be a hellacious nightmare scenario for you...but let me give you some advice:

Just stop.

You're embarassing yourself and making yourself look like a bigger puss than you already do. You're like a 3 year old throwing a tantrum on the kitchen floor.

This is why everybody mocks you. This is why I tell the world what complete douchebags you are. Until you learn to just sit back and take it, I'm afraid you'll always be seen as a whiney bitch who can't handle your team losing.

The Mizzou game wasn't that close? Ummm....they outgained a top 3 team on the road..at night..and were leading at one point in the 4th quarter. Fuck, even Lee Barfenecht said nice thnigs about Mizzou.

If it bothers you so much..stay the fuck away from this blog. Nobody makes you click on it, and you're seriously doing more harm to your team's reputation than good.

Now go play Xbox or something you fuckin whiney crybaby.

Nebraska fans have gravitated using the scores of other teams vs a school that hasn't won a conference title in 38 years just to talk smack, because said school beat them by FIVE touchdowns

that is so sad, sad like the movie Philadelphia or Love Story.

I hear the slow music (Whitney Houston "Didn't We Almost Have it All?") playing as I read that.

In some way, I "almost" pity NU fans, I mean that's all they have. That's ALL. Well the ones that aren't bandwagon jumpers from other states, but the farming John Deere drivers. That's it. It's going to be a long, cold winter.

b-man,

I notice you have the Cornholers losing only the road games, do you still think you are a threat at home to anyone? Is the thunderous whimper of Memorial Stadium going to pull you through? Get used to the fact that the Cornholers run an extremely good chance of losing out the rest of the season.

Let's run down your list of coaches:

Spurrier-why even mention his name?
Levitt-BUILT the USF program from zero. You're right, not leaving, but, once again, why even mention his name?
Venables-inline to be one of the top coaching prospects of a program on its way up in the very near future. Why even mention....
Pelini-Cornholers blew their chance with this guy. Sure he's a coordinator, but his team is also kicking a ton of ass these days (just not against Kentucky).
Mangino-Finally showing success at KU. Every local all-you-can-keep-down-buffet in town has an entire section reserved for him.
Solich-certainly not after the anal raping he took from the 'Sker faithful a couple of years ago. Yes, Pederson fired him, but the boosters were calling for it.
Holtz-Turned 70 this year. The man is retired and making too much money on TV.
Barnett-Is Bill McCartney or Rick Neuheisel not available? I'm surprised you would even consider taking one of Colorado's castoffs. Sure sign of desperation. Sex scandals were an embarrassment to university and conference, which puts him right up Nebraska's alley. Maybe Lawrence Phillips could be his Offensive Coordinator and Christian Peter his defensive coordinator. Mark Vedral could coach special teams and Shevin Wiggins could be his recruiting head.
Gill & Blake-the only two worth mentioning. Gill is a legacy and Blake built Stoops' championship team. I'm not sure if you will land either one of these guys, but this is the caliber of coach you need to be realistically expecting.

Cornholers,

Every name that I see mentioned from the Cornholer faithful on any blog or message board is usually a high-profile name or the name of a coach enjoying success at his current job. It's time to get realistic, you are not going to steal a D1-A head coach from anywhere. Right now, you'd have problems drawing top assistants. The name University of Nebraska does not mean the same thing as it used to. The name University of Nebraska does not instill fear like it used to. The name University of Nebraska is not the creme del la creme, like it used to.

Be expecting to see Cally on the sidelines next year. He's Pederson's hire, he's Pederson's boy and Pederson isn't moving on him. Pederson will force it to work. Also, Cally isn't leaving voluntarily. He has a guaranteed contract through 2011. In Pederson's infinite wisdom (and bravado) he didn't put in a buy-out clause. If the planet's line up just right and he does leave, expect a coach from a mid-major or another washed up bum like Cally. Not because that's all that's available, but that's all that would be willing to come to Nebraska.

Even the necks across the street from me, who PAID PPV fees to watch the game, were leaving early. I think it's sad that people are jumping ship just because it's the first time in memory that Nebraska could play so horribly. There is plenty of blame to go around, and I just hope that all people don't start acting like Missouri Husker Fan. Those fans are they reason that Huskerfandom as a whole gets the label that we do. It's time that Husker Nation gets a slice of humble pie and take it like a man. There is nothing that can be done to salvage this season, so why get militant about it? We have slaughtered teams in the past by 70 points ... now it's our turn to take the beating. Life is cyclic, but people refuse to recognize this.

{sigh} Disappointed, yes. Surprised, no...

AJ, why are you so bitter and angry? Did Husker fans under Osborne's reign treat you poorly after beating Mizzou 24 straight years (including one or two wins under Solich)? Gawd, I hope Husker fans don't begin behaving like you now that their team sucks like Mizzou's did for, oh, so long. Sucking like Mizzou sucked is new to Husker fans. Be patient with them.

BTW, you have a well laid out website and you obviously put a lot of time into your hate of the Huskers, which I'm sure you consider is a very positive and prodcutive use of your time.

You're alone, right: no wife, fiance, girlfriend (or boyfriend - don't want to assume), or many friends? Just curious. since your anger is off-putting.

Okay, you can respond with your vitriol and four-letter words now.

Husker fans can now appreciate what it was like to be a Mizzou fan for two decades, perhaps longer, given the number of Big XII championships, let alone North championships, Missouri has won. Since it is somewhat new to Husker fans for their team to suck so badly, like Missouri teams of the past, you need to be patient with them rather than act like a prick.

Are you alone? I mean, you have no wife, fiance, girlfirend (or boyfriend, don't want to assume), or many friends, right? I ask because your website is very professional and you obviously put much time into your hate of the Huskers. Your anger is off-putting.

Wow....all I can say is wow. I was at that debacle AJ. I actually was amongst the OSU fans in Section 20--who had a great time and are very gracious winners. At least someone had a great time Saturday.

What is ironic is that the 'mass exodus' as reported by the media was bad, but not as bad as they would tell it. It is just that this is NU and no one expects a 2/3rds full stadium in the 4th. On the plus side I had much more leg room after the half. The best part about Saturday: Watching "The Wave" go around the stadium 6 times in the 4th quarter. Another highlight. Watching many of those red balloons start flying when NU finally got a first down.

So that is what it is like to be:

Missouri
Colorado
Kansas
Iowa State
K-State
Oklahoma State
and Oklahoma (in the 90's)

I always wondered what it was like to lose a homecoming game. I always wondered what it was like to have a defense ranked in the triple digits. I always wondered what it was like to hope that you have a new coaching staff in place before Christmas. I know what it is like to know--absolutely--that if anything short of a complete enema of the football leadership is done soon, we will be stuck in mediocrity.

I no longer have to wonder. OSU did the favor of spelling it out to me by halftime. 0-38. We had 17 freaking passing yards at half. 17. Drink that in like ice water. The final score was in no way an indication that OSU was 31 points better than we are. They pulled the dogs off. They could have hung 60 on us.

I will be there again on Saturday cheering for the Huskers to win. As much as I realize this staff cannot get it done, I can not bring myself to cheer for a 4-8 season that would end the Callahan Experiment.

AJ, I still hate you for being so damn right and, as always, making sure I know it.

Time for me to revamp my blog.

LOL @ Husker fans...

Callahan IS your John Blake. Hire that looser, and you are in for more of the same.

My favorite Callahan moment is him running the ball in Norman a few years back in order to keep the score down. Wuss.

Mizzou put up a decent game; not at the same level of the Sooners, but Pinkel's best team yet. Mizzou is certainly no paper tiger. I do not think anyone knows if the Jayhawks are legit or not. No one should complain about an OU/Mizzou rematch in S.A.

BHG,

This looks like more of the rumor mill circulating....

I don't think we'll see mass firings (as much as many fans would like to see that happen).

I've seen everything from Warren Buffet signing a $40M check to relieve NU of the current contracts and debt (highly unlikely) to TO coming back as the interim AD (not sure how likely or not this is, but would think if it did happen, it would be for a short term)

I think calmer heads will prevail here and we won't just make things worse with a massive, mid-season overhaul (but it makes for fun reading)

We'll see though.

Randy

PS. AJ, looking forward to your power polls this week... I know it will be hard for you to put KU up there, but you have to give them some credit (they actually have a BCS ranking... and it's above Mizzou.. yikes)

Randy,

A piece of advice, don't bet against the BHG.

Pedersens ego was his downfall, which is the reason he left Nebraska in the first place, it got him pressured to leave Pittsburgh before he got fired, and now it got him fired at Nebraska. (I called this before Pedersen even took the job, but it took pressure outside the University to put Perlman up to it. Lesson here is, "Never send a lawyer to do a man's job.)

At fault for the situation that Nebraskans find themselves is sportwriters calling for Solichs head, Pedersen for not being able to work professionally, and the idiot fans that don't understand the game of football (see Randy/JP, and AJ a.k.a. THUGS=HAPPY FANS). When retarded fans applauded Frank Solich being fired after a 10-3 season, they showed exactly how retarded they were, when they made comments about how great of a coach Callahan was, they showed how retarded they were, when they say Callahan needs more time, they showed how retarded they were, when they said Frank couldn't recruit talent they showed how retarded they were, when they said the win against Michigan was a "spring board", they showed how retarded they were, when they said the loss to USC was a "quality" loss, they showed how retarded they were, when they didn't call for Coz's head after the first season, they showed how retarded they were. (and the list could go on, but I think you get the point)
You people are as credible as the retard that writes this blog. (See THUGS=HAPPY FANS is a universal truth.)

People with no credibility need to shut up and keep their retarded ideas to themselves. Cripes, lets take AJ for example, what is he credible to comment on? Well with THUGS=HAPPY FANS as a universal truth, you're not left with much credibility on any subject (unless you're preaching to an audience of retards, and evidence proves they are out there in droves, i.e. people that pointed to Rivals as a measuring stick for the program, people that don't know there are rednecks in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.) AJ is qualified to bitch and moan like a little girl about the color of his skirt, but so instead of "WHY DIDN'T YOU LISTEN TO ME", it should read "WHY WOULD ANY ONE LISTEN TO ME, SEE THUGS=HAPPY FANS IS THE UNIVERSAL TRUTH!!!!"

Have you considered calling HP up and getting your name added to the list of potential AD candidates? I mean, shit... who wouldn't want a guy that's never been wrong about anything.... ever? **[cough]in hindsight[cough]** Couple that with your big football brain and Order would be instantly and forever Restored..

Randy,

Simple, I'd have to put up with retards like yourself.

Look at AJ, he knows little about nothing, and he's got 3000 hits a day, so what does that say about his audience?

Most people that I watch football games with are not as knowledgeable as they seem (especially after a six-pack). I played football in college, and while that was a great experience, what taught me most about the game was scouting for high school teams. (We generally got paid $40/bucks and a case of beer per "crew" per game.) The lessons learned from that were invaluable.

P.S. If you don't want to be called an idiot, don't post idiotic things. (If you were smart, you would have figured that out yourself.)

Ya.. um, I don't think that's really the reason. I gotta tell you, I really don't believe that the great football minds nor the great administrators are spending half of their day at a keyboard telling other people how smart they are..

But, what the hell do I know, right?

If I'm wrong and you are making a public appearance somewhere to talk serious X and O's, drop me the info, I'll attend so that I can see firsthand and decide for myself.

bornred,

No Randy, I don't play politics, don't like to P.C., and don't deal well with people that base their arguements on feelings.

When exactly did I say that I was a great football mind, hell, I was just a student of the game, loved it, tried to soak in as much knowledge of that knowledge as I could.

Aren't you the guy that thought Pedersen being fired was a rumor, when I stated it as fact hours before the news conference, even before Pedersen met with Perlman.

Let's take that for instance. I posted a fact, and I wait for someone like yourself to stick their foot in their mouth, then watch them circle the toilet with weak arguements, instead of having enough courage to admit that someone else may know more than them. It's hilarious!!!!!

11:08 PM
Blogger bornred said...

BHG,

What are you talking about? Do you have any idea how many rumors have been flying around since the Okie State game? Besides, you specifically said that it would be announced at a 10:00 am press conference, which it wasn't and that it was going to be "Pederson on down", which it wasn't either. Look at my response, I said it's unlikely that there would be mass firings, which, there weren't and which TO himself squashed. If you are telling me that you are more in the know than TO, then don't take it personally, but you don't have an ounce of the credibility that he does.

That sound of rushing water you hear isn't because you were suddenly transported to Niagra Falls.. it's your "argument" going down the shitter.

Randy

PS. I thought you were supposed to be good at this... fuck, let me know when I need to actually kick in some effort here.

PPS. There is another "rumor" going around that has Callahan, Cosgrove, Elmo, and Wagner getting their contracts bought out by some boosters and that they would "resign", we'll see where that goes. Unlike you, I don't believe that by posting it, it becomes fact, even if it does eventually happen...

10:34 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

bornred,

Is Pedersen gone? You did doubt that didn't you? I already admitted that my time was off, I will admit when I'm wrong, unlike yourself. (As far as "on down", I was speaking out of turn, but wait until the season concludes.)

Cripes, guys like you were lining up to call in and tell Steve Pedersen how great he was for breaking us from the bondage of the option offense, and ready to erect statues in his honor for bringing the west coast offense to Nebraska.

Kool-aid drinkers like you were just fine with how the program was going. After the first game against Nevada, I knew we were in for a long year, and if you go back, I stated that, when people like yourself were talking about how great of a win it was for the program and on to the Big 12 title game we go. (We had one sack against a Nevada line that had TWO freshman OT's.)

Yeah, right, my credibility is in question. (Hell, you were probably one of those guys that thought the win against Michigan was a "springboard".)
