Just When You Think.....

Looking back on the day…we should have seen it coming. I mean...Oklahoma… a team with more talent than God, had no business allowing Colt McCoy to go up and down the field in the second half. Hell, even the Texas running game came alive out of nowhere…something that hadn’t really happened the past few weeks. But alas, the game proves why it is so great…with twists and turns from every direction leave you wondering just how in the hell you could miss such inconsistancies. I mean good lord....USC loses to Oregon State? Florida lost to Ole Miss? Where does it end and what do we make of all this? How can ANYBODY predict anything regarding this crazy game?

First…let’s start with you.

You all had a very nice game. In fact, I was almost ready to politely applaud your effort against a lifeless, overrated and completely bored Texas Tech team…which let’s face it…probably didn't even watch film on you after that horrific effort against Mizzou last week. But alas, the Red Raiders couldn’t do what even San Jose State did a good job at..and that was keep the Hick running game down while forcing Ganz to throw on 3rd down. (Seriously...even Western Michigan and New Mexico State had some success at knocking Marlon Lucky down.)

Unfortunately for Leach and company, they weren’t able to keep the horrifically pathetic Husker running game in check, at least for less than four years at a time...which as a perfect opportunity for Joey Ganz to showcase his rifle right arm and have the game of his life; battling back like a warrior for a huge huge victory.

Ok, so he threw quite possibly the dumbest pass of his life in overtime…but damnit…when your program is being flushed down the toilet, what more can you ask for? But you don’t have time to worry about your own shitty team…because you’re taken aback, celebrating your proxy victory over the evil that colon-thundered you at home just 7 days ago. (I don't recall as much celebration in 1997 after your (split) National Title as I saw when Missouri went down in a thriller tonight in Columbia.

So, as for Missouri…I’m not sure where you read such a thing…but I don’t recall predicting a Mizzou national championship. I didn’t count on an undefeated season, a Chase Daniel slam-dunk Heisman nor did I think any sort of easy victory over Okie State was on tap. But, since your own team sucks and you now root against every team above you (Trust me, I know how this works)…let’s break it down. (By the way...if Mizzou beats Texas next weekend...which let's face it...anything can happen this season...they'll be right back in the thick of things)

I’m not sure what Mike Gundy did to his defense, but the pressure the Pokes put on Daniel won the game. I’m not going to lie to you..I’m not some sort of offensive line guru, but I’d like to know how the same offensive line that allowed Daniel to make a four course meal in the pocket while in Lincoln last week could allow that much pressure. Perhaps Okie State is just that good or the Husker front four just sucks that bad. Not sure…but props to Okie State. They outplayed the Tigers in almost every part of the game. They deserve all the credit they can get...I was very very impressed. (especially considering how young they are)

Also, not sure what was wrong with Jeremy Maclin, but he was out of sync all night. You never know whether it is the scheme against him or if he was injured or just having a really crappy night…but regardless, the Cowboys did a great job of taking him out of the game.

Hell, I even thought the Mizzou defense did great at times, but had a hard time stopping the counter draw…which is ironic because it’s the same damn play their own offense runs. They stopped OSU when they had to and gave the offense a chance to win….but in the most ironic of situations, Daniel fires an interception where he is completely screened by the defender…just as Van Alexander’s pick on Joey Ganz last week was caused by a lineman blocking the defender within his vision.
Game over. That's life.

So in the end…Oklahoma has a loss. USC has a loss. Ohio State has a loss. LSU has a loss..hell Florida lost at home to an Ole Miss team that is light years behind what Oklahoma State brings. But in the end, you have to give credit where credit is due, and Mizzou got caught either looking ahead or looking behind…the true definition of a trap game between two circled dates on their pre-season calendar.

I’m pretty sure the world will go on…the Huskers will continue to get blown out and/or moral victories over teams that are too bored to even try…and their fans…well; you people will continue to show me that you are exactly who I thought you were.

Nothing has changed tonight. Your program has lost three straight games. Your players still make idiotic penalties at horrible times. (2 more personal fouls? No...you're not dirty) Your coach is still a massive crybaby without any clue of how to act on a sideline. But in the end..it’s still a great game and a great time of the year.

Can’t wait to see what happens next.

Hell, at this rate, BYU and Tulsa will be battling it out in Miami. Don’t laugh..they may be the only ones left standing.
More to come....

PS - To the KU fans/message board lurkers...I have a serious question.

How was that not a trap game?

Nebraska is circled on the schedule for months. The matchup with UT is large possibly a 1 vs. 3 matchup. Okie State is just looming there in the middle.

Granted I realize everybody thinks OSU sucks..and maybe they're aren't as good as MU made them out to be. But as a Missouri fan you have to hate having that game situated right in the middle there.

I didn't feel good about it all week and for good reason.

Something about glass houses and throwing stones... That quarterback you've been jacking off like Matt Perrault does to Dana Altman looked pretty fucking average last night. Seriously, porn stache AND skull cap? I don't know what's funnier, watching that tubby fucker throw pick after pick into quadruple coverage or watching him pick his bloated carcass off the turf play after play with the aforementioned skull cap knocked sideways. Hold on, at least AJ is there to remind us that his girlfriend is hot and his GPA is high. Daniel's silence is deafening... he wins and talks shit, he loses and says nothing... Bye bye, national title, bye bye Heisman. And yes, I'll cheer like NU won a national title to put Missouri fan back in his slaver place...Misery loves company fucker.

I don't do moral victories. I told people this week that we would play with these guys. We lost, but we got fewer penalties, better line play, and Watson called a damn fine game.

Bring on the fighting Chiziks.

I watched the OSU/MU game last night. Could it have been a trap game? Possibly. It did seem like the Tigers could not fathom the fact that OSU took every punch and kept punching back. I think the Pokes felt a bit disrespected this week hearing that there was no way they could win.

Could also be that they got pissed with the helmet to helmet on their star WR....

What OSU did was take away the run....64 yards (and Chase had a good third of those) is not enough to beat good competition.

To mizzou - Good game boys, maybe next week. Hang in there, you'll be ok... golf clap, clap, clap, clap.....

To my Buffs - Oh, are we in deep doo doo. Even you AJ, who had them listed 2nd in the North (probably just to piss off the niblet fans), will need to reconsider.

I find it telling and ironic that all the "tough guy" Husker comments about Mizzou are anonymous. What a shock.

Statisticly Daniel didn't have a bad game. 39 of 52, 390 yards and a TD. Of the picks, the one was horrible..the other bounced off Alexanders fucking facemask (WTF was wrong with him last night?) and the other..the last one...he was completely screened.

But alas, he's the QB with all the pressure and he didn't come through. Granted he didn't cry like Pelini and he was the first person in the interview room after the game...but hey...that just messes up a good smack comment right?

Oh, and the only person teh guy has EVER talked shit to was Nebraska. Now, I saw how chior boy Suh had another cheap shot/late hit that cost his team...but I'm sure it's just Daniel being a puss. I'm sure there was NO VALIDITY to that accusation whatsoever.

Regardless, Nebraska has won just 13 of their last 29...haven't beaten a top 20 team since the Clinton administration and has still lost three games in a row.

But hey...if you're looking for me to get you through the season...I'm cool with that.

OHF - That was kinda funny and at least you kinda get it.

H.E. - it was most certainly a trap.

and NE, your time is coming. There for about 3 quarters, you weren't exactly feeling good about your team eitehr I'm sure...unless of course you think Colorado is as good as Okie State...in which case you should feel good. :)

Well, AJ--Kansas fans learned last year that Oklahoma State has ZERO talent. They just stink on ice as evidenced by their losing to the Jayhawks. Plus, Kansas fans learned that losing by fewer than ten points constitutes getting blown out.

Too bad you all got routed by a lousy team.

I'm betting the Niblets blew their Wad against TTech yesterday. We won't see drastic improvement like the holer's are expecting this week as they go into Ames and lay and egg against ISU. Husker fans remember when you guys almost beat Texas last year, and thought maybe the team was turning the corner? Next week was the Kansas game. How did that go? CU was leading Georgia in Athens in 2006 until 41 seconds left in the game, and we thought we were turning the corner after the game. Didn't win until midseason against guess who? TTech. Moral victories are worthless. You will learn this come Saturday when all of that "progress" vanishes like a fart in the wind when you lose to ISU.

AJ--No, losing on a neutral field does not equate to a tie. It's just a loss. Missouri fans were the ones who insisted that nobody Kansas beat had any talent at all. You hung your hat on the Jayhawks losing meaning the whole season was a "fraud". You also characterized the game as a rout--which it clearly was not.

My only point is that Missouri fans really painted themselves into a corner with that kind of talk. By the Tigers' standards, last night the team got absolutely blown out, at home, by a team with no talent at all on the roster. By doing that, they completely erased all accomplishments from the season. There is no way to recover any honor from the year.

Now, I know such talk is absurd. Oklahoma State is clearly a talented team--just like they were last year. Missouri is still a very talented team--even though they lost. Missouri fans are the ones who laid down the standard that losing by a few points is a rout and that the Cowboys are the worst team in the history of the sport.

Oh, and I beleive the Big XII did recognize Kansas as regular season co-champions in football. I didn't pay that much attention to that award. There were others that meant more.

I think Texas is vulnerable this Saturday. If Pinkel can get the team regrouped and pointed the right direction, they have a chance to knock off the 'Horns.

Too bad it won't mean anything since the Tigers have been proven to be a fraud. There is nothing to erase that . . . ever.

That's the kind of logic you get from a group of people still pissed off that Gettysburg went the wrong way.

The Tigers are a fraud? They've lost 3 games in 2 years...all 3 to top 20 teams. how does that work?

And KU is a fraud because:

1) your biggest win last season was Okie State..who was barely bowl eligable. (Doesn't matter what they did this year)

2) Your schedule was 77th in the nation

3) You had your shot at Mizzou on a neutral field and got rolled for 55 minutes.

4) "Co North Champs"? Seriously. The Orange Bowl smack was better than taht.

5) You barely beat Iowa State. You struggled with Colorado. The one tough team you played this year..you lost. (Is USF REALLY that good? Seriously)

SPin all you want..your judgement day is coming. Next thing you know you'll be walking around with a Bucknell shirt on, and that would be just silly.

I don't think Mizzou is a fraud. However, that is the only conclusion Tiger fans' logic leads to given the way they've employed it. Mizzou has lost three times in the last two years to highly-ranked teams. Fair enough. Kansas has lost twice in the last two years to highly-ranked teams.

Oh, and no matter how much you may wish that Oklahoma State was our best win last year, it wasn't. You can't discount the win against the third-rated team in the country down in Miami.

Bob

Bob fair enough. Time will tell whether Okie STate is that good or Mizzou was napping. Either way..better team won. Nothing to add.

As for "mizzou fans running smack and it feels good blah blah".

I'm sure I speak for many MU fans when I say...I could give a shit less. I haven't gotten to run smack my entire life, and I'm quite sure that no run lasts forever. I simply intend to run it until I can't no more, because you never know when you'll get the chance again.

That aside..we'll see what kind of balls this Tigers team has in Austin.

"The Tigers are a fraud? They've lost 3 games in 2 years...all 3 to top 20 teams. how does that work?"

Uh, KU has lost two games in two years, one to a top 5 team (yeah, Mizzou) and the other to a top 20 team.

"And KU is a fraud because:

1) your biggest win last season was Okie State..who was barely bowl eligable. (Doesn't matter what they did this year)"

Uh, Virginia Tech. Oh, wait, last years VT team was no good by definition because they lost to KU

"2) Your schedule was 77th in the nation"

BFD. We play in the same B12 MU does, and we don't control the schedule rotation.

"3) You had your shot at Mizzou on a neutral field and got rolled for 55 minutes. "

I remember Mizzou coming out to a huge lead (assisted by two KU missed field goals) and then KU storming back and losing by a touchdown. You guys were shitting yourselves by midway through the 4th quarter -- I think the best you can say about the game was MU barely held on to a win.

"4) "Co North Champs"? Seriously. The Orange Bowl smack was better than taht."

I didn't say that. And it is pretty lame. But it pisses you Quantrill supporters off to no end, so I applaud whoever uses it.

"5) You barely beat Iowa State. You struggled with Colorado. The one tough team you played this year..you lost. (Is USF REALLY that good? Seriously)"

Yeah, well, I have my doubts too. We'll see in a week how good this years KU team is. That's all I'm saying now.

"PS - Civil War smack is lame, but I dont expect you to be above it. I have no problem with it."

Nah, civil war smack is awesome. It part of what makes this rivalry way better then lame-ass amateur rivalries like Michigan Ohio State and Texas-Oklahoma.

OK, Civil War smack is kinda cool. But I was not..in any way shape or form "shitting myself".

KU scored 3 times in teh last 8 minutes and at the end...had to get in the end zone in under 30 seconds from like their own 5.

It wasn't going to happen...and of course...it didn't.

How is OSU considered a trap game, when MU's shitty backup could've led MU to a 20 point win over the Huskers.... Do you think Chase Daniel really gives a shit about losing 50 straight (or however many) games in Lincoln? The players didn't give a damn, it was just another game. It was made to be a trap game by you and every other MU fan that had already penciled in Chase as the Heisman Trophy winner.

And what is this smack about MU losing 3 of their last 22 (all top 20 teams). Yet KU is a fraud? KU has won 20 of their last 23 games (L @ Mizzou, L Mizzou at Arrowhead, L@ South Florida). Mix in there a 12 point road win over the team that just beat you at home, and a big bowl of Oranges. You MU fans are so god damned bitter it makes me sick. You are still pissed off, that in "MU's year" KU came out of nowhere and stole the spotlight.

Your team lost 5 of their last 7 games in 2006, then got smoked by Oklahoma twice last year. Before you call KU a fraud look in the mirror. The only decent wins you can hang your hat on in the last 2+ years are: Illinois, Texas Tech, and yes.... Kansas.

When the Tigers lose next week, and Daniel gains another 20 pounds (man, is he looking chubbier by the day).... We will all expect to see a post seeking answers.

But hey, why not stop your blog now. Go out on top before it all goes to hell!

1) DO not demand credit from me when you post anonymously. This is idiotic and makes you look like a bigger douche than you already do.

2) I can't imagine why people call you hicks when you log on and drop such sophisticated smack such as "fags". I mean, I know you are a highly civilized and interlectually advanced fan base...but this is what I mean by knowing the real you. That's the best you got?

3) I said Mizzou would lose to Texas since day one. Not saying I have no faith..but this would not be some sort of shock. Also not sure why I have to defend Daniel...although I might with my next column.

Dude is getting destroyed, and yet went 39-52 for nearly 400 yards. Of his 3 picks, one was a miscommunciation...one was off Denario Alexander's fucking face and the other hit the ground.

Regardless...the season is not over (unlike yours) and a win in Austin will make the country forget about Okie State (as most will when their schedule catches up to them.)

We shall see.

How freaking embarssing for Missouri. They have the #2 team in the nation, and they still run radio spots promoting the Missouri football team, to get tickets. Nebraska, how many radio spots have you heard telling you to come on down to the stadium to get Husker football tickets. (How sad of a program must Missouri be?)

Just thought I'd check in to see if you still had a bunch of retards buying that THUGS=HAPPY FANS line you've been shoveling.

*Note* Missouri took money from a person, who didn't even go to MU to build a new basketball arena, turned out that the person who gave the money, cheated her way through school. Missouri must really have some tight standards on who they take money from, but I guess that falls into the THUGS=HAPPY FANS thoery, man those Texas players must be as quilty as all get out, probably a couple rapists, a mass murderer, and what else I don't know, (A.J. probably does).

Appears that those with pussidice have decided to comment on the physicality of the game of football. To those women, hey, go back to the golf course, you can watch another football game on Saturday, and say retarded stuff again. Cripes, the 6-8th graders that I coach that tell me they get clipped, chop blocked and held, I tell them to suck it up, and be better than the refs, come about week three I didn't have any more complaining, and those guys took care of business. (Cripes, AJ probably could have waddled through those holes my guys opened up.)

Advice, if you're a retard and doesn't know anything about football probably best not to comment, otherwise, you end up with THUGS=HAPPY FANS as a universal truth.

I don't get that, you have the #2 team in the nation, and yet you have to run ads telling people to come to the stadium to watch football. It's not like Omaha is your biggest city, good lord, St. Louis and Kansas City are huge compared to Omaha and Lincoln. That's is just sad.

aj,

It's pretty obvious that Missouri was still gloating over it's decimation of the Huskers and looking forward to the Texas game.

Did that make OSU a trap game?

I think they probably overlooked them since the NU game proved so easy.

Maybe that's the definition of a trap. Too much emphasis on a team they should have beaten easily and too much of a hangover.

As to your opinion of what happens to the Huskers now, well, you could be right. This may simply be the anomaly in the season which proclaims the Husker demise forever after. Or, it could be that the coaches finally learned what they have against Missouri and how to defense the Spread with what they have.

It's apparent that we still have a way to go. To many mental errors, especially on the fourth down play when Asante didn't cover Crabtree.

Huskers outplayed the Raiders and still lost. Does that presage losing the rest of their games? I think not. Colorado has as many, if not more problems thatn we do. KSU is falling apart, not coalescing. Baylor is improving and may be able to surprise the Huskers in Lincoln. Either ISU is vastly improved or Kansas is just not that good.

All of those are games that the Huskers can win. Will they? We'll see.

In any case, all we expect is full effort and it wouldn't surprise me to see the Huskers finish second in the North or just finish 4-4 along with three other schools.

So what do you do next? Your season is over as far as winning the big one goes. We know what it feels like to be a fan of a National Championship team 5 times over. NU is almost exactly where I put them at the beginning of the season (check the archives if you doubt me) I called Va Tech a toss up...we played to a 3-3 record facing 2 top 10 teams and faced the 27th, 18th, 3rd, and 2nd ranked offenses in the country.

With half the sched behind us, I still see OU as the only definite loss. The last 6 games in order of difficulty

1. OU
2. KU
3. CU
4. BU
5. ISU
6. KSU

Yea mildcats....that is where I see you guys right about now.

AJ, any chance you want to revise your 4-8 prediction? I am thinking 7-5 now...and if we eliminate the penalties and mistakes...8-4 is not that long a shot....

Mizzou losing sucks for the Misery fans, but if they pull it off in Austin this week, they are right back in the hunt...

I'm not changing my NU prediction at all. I certainly think it is not unexpected to say NU could lose in Ames or in Manhattan..despite the troubles that those teams have had.

A lot rides on the game this week however...as well as the trip to Manhattan later on this year.

However, even after predicting a "bloodbath in Lubbock", you cannot bring yourself to give just a few props to Nebraska. You discredited Nebraska finally playing well against a quality opponent this year by calling Texas Tech "lifeless" "overrated" and "completely bored". I can agree with TTU being overrated, but lifeless? NU mostly did what it had to do to take the #7 team in the nation down in their house. If not for a few more dumb penalties and an absolutley horrible mistake in OT, we'd have done it.

Also, I just cannot fathom our fans being ecstatic over OK. State beating Mizzou over the weekend. Is is ever good that a team in our division loses unless it directly benefits your team? First off, Mizzou going undefeated makes us look better because we got soundly whipped by a team that didn't lose. Next, OSU destroyed us last year at home. Last, it makes our division look worse. For the sake of the B-12 North, you want your fellow members to win!

Yes a lot does ride on these next 2 NU games. Both are wins if we play smart and losses if we continue down this path of stupid mistakes. It will be interesting to see which team shows up at Ames.

It will also be interesting to see how Missouri handles the loss last week. Will Daniels play the way he usually does or will he be distraught over losing his shot at a Heisman.

NU 35
ISU 14

Texas 45
Missouri 44

Let the record show that I did give limited props to Nebraska for their gameplan. The key was Lucky and company actually moving the chains on the ground, and not being forced into the air on every play.

Tech decided to play soft on teh run and drop back deep. That and improved line play for Nebraska gave them control of the ball for a ridiculous amount of time.

With all that being said, it still wasn't enough...but yes...you get credit for not getting completely destroyed.

I will give you full credit for that.

PS - Thanks for reading

*editors note*

Chase Daniel was 39-52 for 377 yards and a TD including 29-33 in the 2nd half.

Sincerely,
The stupid management

Chase was ridiculous in the 2nd half.....except for the two that ended up in OSU hands.....

He did look a little....rushed most of the night.

He looked rushed because he was. Okie State did a good job mixing up the blitzes and keeping him off-rythem.

Not sure why he didn't go downfield on man-man coverage, but he seemed determined to get it to Maclin (who was hurt) and Coffman the entire night.

SHould be interesting how he responds Saturday.
