I'm Bored of Being Right All the Time
I'm not sure what it is about this time of year, but it always gets on my nerves. I'm not sure if it's the CONSTANT reality show finales that have doucehbags from accounting to finance talking about who won what and how Simon was this or that or whatever the hell they're talking about. And yes,it's annoying when Husker baseball fan pokes his head out of his hole, ready to hit the CWS and a bottle of Zima. However, this year seems to be different. Perhaps it's the white-hot football myopia spreading across the state? Most likely, but here are a couple other things going on:
* As most of you know, the only thing I love more than a Husker loss is being right. (Being right about a Husker loss is the best.) One such example was the current situation the city of Omaha is in regarding the College World Series.
As some of you also know, I'm not exactly a CWS fan. In fact, I think it's a complete and total waste of time, due to the fact that it's turned from an innocent amateur celebration of baseball, into a giant frat party, where the guest of honor is self-congratulations on what a great place Omaha is. (Apparently because some ESPN camera monkey said so.)
That not withstanding, I do think it's good for the city, despite the evil that is the NCAA making a complete mess out of the thing with their company cars, their corporate sponsors and their Nazi-like rules and regulations. (Not to mention Dennis Poppe, who is not my favorite person either.) However, through all that...I understand it's a great event and a great time. Like many other aspects of an otherwise nice town, Omaha has taken a great thing...and ruined it in their quest to tell themselves just how super they are.
So now, the NCAA is looking at re-upping the contract, and WHAT DO YA KNOW...they're talking about either major improvements to Rosenblatt, or a new stadium in downtown Omaha. Hmmmmmm...wasn't it me who said a LONG time ago that you simply can't keep throwing billions of dollars into a 60 year old piece of crap, because the NCAA will just demand you tear it down later anyway? As a sports fan, it's not that big of a deal to me, because I went to games as a kid and had a nice time. (I don't go down there now. Too nauseating. Besides, if I want to feel good about myself, I'll read Tom Shatel's annual drivel about how it's the greatest week in the history of western civilization.). However, as a taxpayer in the city of Omaha, it really pisses me off that civic leaders and voters in this town can be this stupid.
How could you NOT see...(or at least see it coming)...that the NCAA will use this town like a shake and bake bag and threaten to head to Boise or Tucson or Sioux City if they have to...just to milk more money out of the city. Omaha has done a great job building up downtown, attracting events (when Creighton a-holes aren't hogging up the tickets) and marketing the city. However, if you think the NCAA won't screw you as soon as look at ya, then you're crazy.
Mike Fehey, you better get that stadium down there quick, or the moving van will be here faster than you can say Zestos. Don't believe me? Wait and see.
* Speaking of being right.....
Nice to see the official word come down today that the Omaha American Cancer Society Knights of Qdoba or whatever the hell they're called split town for eastern Iowa of all places. It's never good to see the city lose a sports franchise, and as we've talked before around here...whomever thought that would be a good idea was a complete idiot. However, who didn't see that train wreck coming? Is the University of Phoenix handing out Sports Owner degrees now? Who in their right mind would POSSIBLY see a reason to plant a THIRD hockey team in town..and play in a shitty dump of an arena that was too old about 30 years ago?
I once again blame some dumbass MECA official who went on and on about the greatest fans in the history of sports would rather sit through a Thursday night game vs. Scranton than do anything else. At what point are people going to figure out that mass self-appreciation and myopia a BAD thing? Why is it so prevalent here? If one of you are a sociology expert, I'd love to hear the theory.
* Rumors are flying here that Purify is going to be forced to sit down for one or two games for his "accidental misunderstanding" with a Lincoln bouncer last month. I certainly can't confirm any of this, but would it really be THAT shocking if Callahan comes out with some speech about how Mo regrets the whole thing, and how he would sit him longer if the courts found him guilty (which he won't even go to trial for months..and that's if George Achola doesn't get him off in the meantime).
I'm sure the absence of Purify in that monumental home game against Nevada will be crippling to the Nebraska attack. Boy, that'll show him. I'll wait to finish this thought when this actually happens, but rest assured, O-Street's favorite thug will be back in uniform by the time the plane goes wheels up on the way to Winston-Salem in week 2.
* Can somebody tell me why Screech from Saved by the Bell is on my TV so much lately? I'm not joking. I can't sit for 10 minutes flipping through channels without seeing that bearded freak staring at me through my TV. For the love of God...make it stop.

AJ you are one fucked up person, very seldom are you correct on anything. I bet you, and this is just a guess, that you fuck up your checking accout and bitch to the bank all the time.
As always you can eat a mile of corn ridden shit and kiss my Husker loving ass.
Nothing I hate more than a Screech apologist.
I agree with you about the whole CWS and stadium thing.
My question, in all seriousness, is how you think another school, MIZZOU, for example, would have handled the Mo incident differently. You can't seriously tell me that they would keep Chase out more than a game or two if the same thing went on down there.
so aj, are we gonna get some thoughts on the rising river levels up there due to husker fan crying about K-State's "dirty play" in the baseball game earlier this week?
