My Advice To You
Well well well.
What do ya know? It looks like Old Man Pearmlan got his dry and withered tongue out of the ear of BCS bowl officials long enough to pay attention to your team getting waxed left and right this season. Many people have e-mailed and commented to me on the events of today. And since I'm here to serve you...the loyal rader, I shall give you my fair and balanced opinion as to what is going on. You wanted it? Fine.
First and foremost, before I begin..let the record show that I agree that Steve Pederson was a buffoon. Hell, if you paid ANY attention over the past three years, you’ll know that I pointed this out time and time again. At no time during the events that transpired today, did I think it was a bad decision IF I were in your shoes. The guy is slime. The guy is a horrible leader. If you had listened to me long ago, perhaps none of this would have happened.
Unfortunately however, your intense love of yourselves clouded any an all ability to see reality just three feet from your face.
Whether it was part of the 9 straight (and still going) hours of continuous coverage on the news and radio…or the idiots on the street who are THRILLED with getting rid of the guy they loved just 30 short days ago, you people have now gone full circle in your cycle of batshit craziness.
Let me see if I got this straight:
-You have a Nebraska legend in Osborne.
Now correct me if I’m wrong…and I’m just a wacky blogger with an agenda….but wasn’t the guy you JUST FIRED a lifelong Husker? Didn’t he GO to Nebraska? Wasn’t he the director of football operations during your hay-day back in the 90’s? And better yet…didn’t you FIRE a 30 year Husker coach and former player for “failing to bond with today’s athlete?”
So now that NFL fluky is gone…or at least is about to be gone…you want to go BACK to “the family”?
Huh?
You people are so whacked out on the smell of your own pheromones, you don’t even know what the hell you’re talking about anymore. Why are people on the news talking about “getting back to Husker tradition”? Why is Vashon Jackson ranting on the radio about how you “have to bring in somebody from inside “the family” who understands?"
YOU JUST FIRED A GUY FROM “THE FAMILY”
And Tom Osborne is supposed to bail you out? Ummm, wasn’t it Dr. Tom himself who actually SUGGESTED hiring the AD you just fired? And didn’t your Chancellor just give the AD you just fired an extension back in July? So what the hell changed in 4 weeks? I knew he and the GRF™ sucked. Other people knew they sucked. Why didn’t you know? And correct me if I’m wrong…but isn’t the SAME Chancellor going to choose the new AD..just four years after he screwed up picking the last AD? Has anybody thought of that? It's one thing to be blind with myopia. It's quite another to be a hypocrite to boot.
Frank Solich was fired, because you weren’t pulling in recruits and you weren’t finishing 12-0 every other year. He was a member of your “family”. He poured his heart and soul into your program, both as a player..as an assistant and then as a head coach. His only failing was, he wasn’t a boring former coaching legend from Hastings who hates porn. (I don't know..maybe he hates porn too) And now….just four years later…somehow that formula is going to work again? Do you think those problems just magically disappeared?
If I were you..and thank freaking God I’m not….I’d be hoping for a miracle, because the chances of Vince Lombardi rising from the dead and leading the Huskers out of those big stupid-ass ugly doors next September is better than you luring some “big-name” coach to step into this circus. You don’t think some coach with ½ a brain isn’t going to balk at a school that fired NOT ONLY a 9-3 coach (who went to a National Title game 2 years earlier)..but now...they're about to whack a guy who won the North Division just a year before as well?
For the last time…let this sink in good and deep through that dusty John Deere mesh hat of yours: YOU WILL NEVER ever be as good as you were in the 90’s. Get it out of your head. And while you’re at it, tell Broderick Thomas, Vashon Jackson, Joel Mackavicka and any other dumbass former Husker that those days are long gone as well, and they should concentrate on their own jobs selling insurance. Scholarship limits, the end of prop 48 and steroid tests have done more damage to your program than 1000 Steve Pedersons. The sooner you figure that out, the better off you’ll be.
As I stated before…Steve Pederson had to go, and the GRF™ should be right behind him. But make no mistake…you pushed the plunger on your program long long ago. For you see, the problem does not lie in Steve Pederson, the GRF™, Tom Osborne or anybody else. The problem lies in you. For fans that claim to be so smart, you people sure don’t have any perspective on anything.
Time have changed. Traditional college football…like it or not, is long long gone. Need proof? South Florida is #2 in the BCS standings this week. Not Miami. Not Florida State. Not Florida. South Fucking Florida.
The days of 800 9-win seasons in a row….68-0 wins over 5 different Big 8 schools and 150 walk-ons are long long gone. The sooner you, your fellow fans and the hundreds of former players (who apparently don’t have jobs) figure that out..the better off you’ll be.
You’ll find a new AD. You’ll love him and claim you’re back in the saddle again. You’ll fire Callahan. You’ll hire somebody else. He’ll be the greatest thing since sliced bread, and we’ll be right back here in four years, talking about how I was right all over again. And as you fire up your scathing reply…step back and realize that everything I said earlier came true. I’m not saying you shouldn’t celebrate the demise of Steve Pederson….but you might want to hold off on that ticker tape parade.
Your future is way way too murky for that right now anyway. (Not that you'll be able to see it)
Congratulations anyway. I'm thrilled for you.

They're spooked because they know I was right all along.
I'm kinda spooked myself.
I was trolling the Huskerboard the other day and this guy was lamenting the fact that the players are obviously mailing it in. I paraphrase: "Don't you understand that you play for the University of Nebraska?"
I don't know what else to do but laugh. I mean, seriously. It's like saying: "Don't you understand that you play for Southwestern Maine?" or "Don't you understand that you work at Dairy Queen?"
Nobody -- and I mean NOBODY -- ever cared about Nebraska or thought it was special even when you were good. It never had the mystique of Alabama or USC or Notre Dame. You are a bunch of hicks stuck in a state with roughly the weather and population density of Afghanistan. Get over yourselves.

"Don't you understand that you work at DAIRY QUEEN!?!?"
By far my favorite line of the week..hands down.
I don't base my points on "cheap redneck digs". Those are simply sidebars.
Thanks for doing your homework.
PS - Go to August of 2006, and you'll find a nice rant on Branson that you may enjoy.
AJ,
For once I am going to agree. But Billy C is not gone yet. Lets up we don't become the Alabama of the North. Although there is a rummor that say Saban will come to NE for 5 million!
Andrew
True, people are celebrating like we won something. Thats how bad it has gotten. We are celebrating the firing of an administrator. Sad.
You can mock us all you want, but it is special to play for Nebraska. Its special to Nebraskans. You will never understand it. Ever.
Dead on AJ...Dead on...
Actually, it's getting a little redundant.
- Our expectations are too high.
- We're not special.
- It's all our fault.
- We'll never be as good as we were before.
blah blah blah.
You can be funny sometimes. I hope that didn't get lost along the way.
This is nothing but a complete abdication by Nebraska. Both of the clowns who were fired were buffoons to be sure, but you fire them mid-season, because...? This is why I hate in-season contract extensions...Pederson did nothing to deserve it and neither did Slick Billy Callahan. Just get ready to pay some MORE money out of the Husker fund to pay off Callahan, just like you are doing for Pederson. Just think of how many more weight room extensions all of those millions of dollars could have financed? You could have achieved your ultimate dream of turning all of Lincoln into a weight room, with the exception of the stadium and the parking lots. Don't lie...you've actually considered that as a viable possibility, haven't you?
The rest of college football is giving you a pity clap right now...! Enjoy your continued ride to irrelevance.
Ok, I'll bite - apologies for the history lesson, but it's important to frame what I thought at the time (at least as I recall it today). Lifelong fan and class of '93 alum. I have had a bit of a different opinion than many others in NE concerning the program's recent history, and suffered for it grievously from the Kool-aid fans.
People forget the suckiness we displayed just previous to the "Glory Years" of 92-97, like getting smoked by Georgia Tech and Miami in bowl games due to a glacial lack of footspeed. I recall vividly, I was on campus.
TO had to make some changes, particularly on D in order to compete, and we switched to a 4-3 scheme on D and started recruiting more speed on both sides.
The changes were made, there was success and much rejoicing in Huskerland, and other team's fans around the country hated us for being really good and our fans becoming arrogant buffoons. We went from being the patient and long suffering to the top of the mountain so fast I think people went a bit crazy, particularly the kids.
Post glory years, Husker fans were unhappy with Bill Byrne, and relieved when he went home to A & M. The AD search was pretty quick -hey look at that, we have a guy from Nebraska that went to UNL that is the AD at Pitt, and look at what he's . Logical choice, I was OK with it.
However, after Solich went 7-7, I thought he should be fired and the job given to someone younger like Gill (but not necessarily him), but the new AD believed we should give Frank another year with new assistants. I disagreed, but OK I'll live.
Then SP dumped Solich after going 9-3 - and I argued at the time that only giving him a year with the new assistants was blatant stupidity, and stopped writing those tiny checks (all I can/could afford) to the school. I'll note there were and still are rumors about Solich's personal behavior that may have contributed to the decision if true, but that's another can of worms.
Once the decision was made, very little I (or anyone else) could do about it. AD hires new coach, a guy that appeared to be a pretty good recruiting guy, but his tenure with the Raiders led to a lot of questioning, particularly after going 5-6 in Lincoln.
Ok, let's give the guy a chance with his own recruits everyone said, and I went with the flow. I have to admit I wound up drinking a healthy dose of the kool-aid the last two years after there was some discernable progress (although I did note that we still were not beating anyone that mattered, and that many of the W's were pretty shaky). but I'm an optimist. However, I have always maintained that Peterson was not the right guy to run the department since the Solich firing - wrong way to do it at the wrong time and there had been too many incidents with former players getting the cold shoulder.
This season appears to have already been completely lost, and in my opinion it will take a good long while to fix, maybe as long as a generation, but the community required a scapegoat, and SP made himself the primary target. Good riddance.
AJ,
You pointed out that Pedersen was a baffoon and no one listened, you're also the retard that came up with THUGS=HAPPY FANS is a universal truth.
So with THUGS=HAPPY FANS on your list of accomplishments, you want people to take you seriously on other matters. Of course, what does this say about the people who do believe you to be credible? Actually, it probably puts them one rung below the people that Stinky P and Callahan wer going to bring a championship to Nebraska.
Remember the easy part is proving a retard wrong, the hard part is getting the retard to understand it.
I love publishing your comments, because they speak more than 1000 of my posts ever could.
Don't ever stop. (Like that quitter JP..RIP)
Well, well. Nebraska football is pretty much dead and who do we find protesting at the funeral?
Still contend that you AREN'T Rev. Phelps?
Anybody with $20 for a domain name and a dose of low self esteem and hurt feelings can do what you're doing.
Loser
Editors note - I did not pay for the domain name. It was paid for by a fellow Mizzou fan who hates you guys as much as I do.
PS - To be fair though..not sure every loser with low self-esteem could draw 5,000 hits a day and be permanantly linked on cnnsi.com
But hey..whatever you think is cool with me.
Kalthalior:
You said..."... TO had to make some changes, particularly on D in order to compete, and we switched to a 4-3 scheme on D and started recruiting more speed on both sides. ..."
How do you think he recruited "more speed"? He got thugs. He got lots of them. He opened the floodgates on the Prop 48 players (to new records). These facts (and the way diehard Huskers gloss over them) are exactly why the rest of us never really took Nowledge U. football as seriously as...Nowledge fans. Thank you for making that all too clear.
FR
I think AJ is full of shit, and a complete dick 99.9% of the time. But I will give him credit. He's a very good writer.
(Still a dick though)
GBR
Pederson has made many errors, and has now reaped his reward ($2M+). The biggest symptom of his problem was firing Solich while uprooting the program root & branch. As others have said, the problem was probably his ego.
What was needed in 2002 was an adjustment! On offensive line coach (Barney Cottone) was also offensive coordinator!!! If SP had pressured FS to make Gill OC and assistant head coach (and added recruiting resources), NU might have been able to have taken the next step. Instead we are now swinging from pillar to pole. The main benefit of TO as AD (maybe) is to dampen the swing, and find a better balance between tradition and innovation.
AJ may be right that "Scholarship limits, the end of prop 48 and steroid tests have done more damage to your program than 1000 Steve Pedersons." One key question is: can restoration of the walk-on program can restore a critical edge?
Other programs (Oklahoma, USC) have reclaimed respectability and more, so creating a successful program is still possible, even in the 21st century.

kalthalior,
You had me until you said that Pedersen was the "logical" choice.
Some Nebraskans were unaware of the reason that Pedersen left Nebraska. Some Nebraskans were unaware of what he did at Pitt. So most Nebraskans should have shut up and let the adults take care of things. The saying, "What people don't know could fill volumes" (i.e. the retard that rights this blog thinks THUGS=HAPPY FANS is a universal truth, which puts AJ on par with one believing Tom Cruise is right and we should all be building a bunker to prepare for the alien invasion.) applies, so if you thought Pedersen was the "logical" choice, nice job retard, you spent absolutely ZERO time coming to that conclusion. (Ironically, so did AJ when he posted THUGS=HAPPY FANS, so you have something in common.)
Is anyone familiar with the term "useful idiot", and where it came from? Pedersens tenure can be summed up by describing what Pedersen had run out of. (There are many of them out there and they know who they are.)
AJ,
You can't really think I care what you think about my posts. I mean you're the THUGS=HAPPY FANS man.
I just like pointing out to the people that agree with you, that they are agreeing with a person that also believes THUGS=HAPPY FANS is a universal truth. I mean when you've stated that I have run out of ammo, you can never run out of ammo with a statement like that. The funniest part of the whole exchange was not that you made the statement, but that in your mind you logically defended it. (With a stash of bullets like that, a person would run out of ammo about the time they settle MARS. Of course if I was you, I'd encourage me to run out of ammo too.)
I do have to take my hat off to you, as you could easily send my posts off to never land and no one would be the wiser. (Especially those that agree with you, and guys like JP, dam I miss that retard. He made you look like a genious.)
FR,
Do you have evidence to back up the statement made about the thugs on the team? Please indulge us with your stats, and logic for your statement.
(We'll see what type of football IQ this retard has.)
AJ's right about the danger of TO being too involved with picking the next AD and coaching staff. He's 0-2 so far (Solich and Pederson). However, I think you're overstating how important "the family" is to Nebraska fans. The former players you cite (who you elsewhere refer to as thugs and idiots - so why take their opinions seriously?) speak only for themselves. They hold no positions of power. They haven't been elected or paid to make any of these kinds of decisions. All but a handful aren't paid to give their opinions. So when they say NU needs someone from "the family," they speak from a very small, very insular community.
The overwhelming number of Nebraska fans want a coach who can: 1) win with some measure of dignity, 2) graduate players (which, for all your hemming-and-hawing about Prop 48, our players did and still do), 3) not be a drunk, a wife-beater, or a mistress-impregnater. The coaches who have failed over the last half-century have not met these standards. Please do explain what's unreasonable about that?
The next AD will be expected to hire a coach who can meet those standards. The leveled playing field you mention will temper our expectations some, but Nebraska is a place with a long and storied football history (one that pre-dates what you see as the ill-gotten championships of the 1990s). The next coach will be expected to become part of that family history, whether or not he comes from its Devaney-Osborne iterations.
Look what some douchebag Husker fan put on the boards. "Posted: 1:08 AM by subnoize
I really find it hard to read some of the people's posts regarding how Nebraska is getting what it deserves. I don't understand this line of thinking... Nebraska, Texas, and Oklahoma MADE the Big 12 what it is... Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, etc. all need to be EXTREMELY thankful that Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas even exist, or else those schools wouldn't be involved in the level of football they are. Sad, maybe for non OU, UT, NEB fans, but true. The bottom line is that Nebraska football has a history of being dominant and just because we routed your team, or because we put up 70 points on you at home, on your homecoming, during our championship years, doesn't mean you should bash this historically strong program. Nebraska ranks 3rd all time in total wins behind Michigan and Notre Dame (Texas is creeping up wayyyyyy close)... how is that a program that should simply sit back and let itself mire in despair? It may SEEM like Nebraska fans feel it's their God-given right to win, but the TRUTH is Nebraska fans simply expect their team to be competitive. If the teams are competitiv and "leave it all on the field", I see no reason why Nebraska fans wouldn't accept a 6-6 season... if it means playing superior opponents. However, face the music, only Oklahoma and Texas have talent, facilities, and history equal to that of Nebraska, so those are the only two teams Nebraska should ever have a "problem" with. Bottom line..."
Awesome AJ!

Hmm. I have this site bookmarked. Guessing I'm not the only one.
Look what some douchebag Husker fan put on the boards.
Your point is what? We have some idiots for fans... Well, no shit. Mystery unraveled.. thank you, Mr. Holmes
It'll take me no longer than 30 seconds to go pull a set of idiotic statements that were posted by any set of douchebag fans of any program.
If all Husker fans are guilty by association (isn't that what your point is?), then you're sitting in the same boat as I am, no matter who your team is.
So... basically, you're just beating yourself over the head while telling us all how stupid it is to beat yourself over the head and wondering why you can't get rid of that damn headache...
Nice work
Aren't nubbies fan a bit concerned with all of this firing and hiring is happing during the season let alone game week? Do they not see how this will affect the coaches and players. Not knowing what is going on and who will be there the next day. Just because T.O was hired, doesnt mean all is right.
Perlman has cause another chaotic seen in nubbieville. And this will just blow up in their face again. He has cause the mentality of "looking out for me." Where the coaches will try to save there own jobs, while throwing others under the bus.
Gotta love Perlman and his random decision making abilities.
AJ, get ready for the mentality of the nubbie nation of "Any coach will want to come to UNL."
the dream list is long and delusional.
Listen up, Nebraska fans: it is not special to play for Nebraska. No high school student in his right mind would want to suffer that climate and those fat sorority girls for four years.
There is nothing special about your lame, flat, not very loud stadium. Your concrete bunker campus architecture is disgusting and Lincoln is a pit.
You won't "restore" the walk-on program now because it is illegal for a player to take a "scholarship" from his piss-ant town to play football. You have no recruiting base. Most of your team's success stems directly from steroids and the willingness to recruit idiots who don't belong in college.
The only reason your recruits get so many stars is because the recruiting sites know that half their paying customers are Nebraska fans, so they pump up the credentials of players Nebraska is recruiting.
Go join the Mountain West.

To the individual who sent this, is playing for Nebraska as special as being a retard for a school that you never went to? How is playing for a shitty team, coach, and being horded by fucking low life rednecked fucks while you're 20 years old special? Special like after school special about being molested at a bike shop? Or special like fucking Chris Burke? Or special like my police reports I filed after you and your special fans vandalized my house, car, and face on more than one occasion? Help me understand your retardedness. Help me understand why the president of the SCHOOL you claim to love so much calls you out in a press conference for being fucking wack jobs.
On second thought, bring it you pansie, and go fuck yourself while your at it.
